Cost scales with the instance you launch and the hours you run it, billed through AWS. Larger or specialized instances run more per hour than smaller ones.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each line maps to one AWS EC2 instance type. The name signals its family and size. For example, an m6i.large is a general-purpose instance with a fixed vCPU and memory allocation set by AWS. Larger sizes in the same family add proportionally more vCPU, memory, and network capacity.
The software itself is free, so it adds no charge whether an instance runs or stops. The hourly line meters running instance time through AWS. A stopped instance stops accruing compute charges, though AWS may still bill for attached storage. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
You pay only the underlying AWS EC2 compute cost for the instance you launch, billed by the hour. The Ubuntu Server image carries no software fee. This free version includes an AWS-optimized kernel, security patches for the kernel and key components, and a 5-year lifetime.

For Ubuntu Cloud Guest it is suggested to manually configure your Security Group/Firewall settings. The 1-Click Security Group opens only port 22 so that you can access your instance via ssh using login 'ubuntu'. If you chose the 1-Click Security Group, you may change it later to enable applications using the AWS Console or API.
