WHAT IS INFLUXDB
InfluxDB is an open-source time series database purpose-built for high write and query loads on timestamped data - infrastructure and application metrics, application events, IoT and sensor telemetry, and real-time analytics. This AMI ships the 2.x line: a single Go server (influxd) with a built-in web UI, a token-authenticated HTTP API on port 8086, and two query languages - Flux and InfluxQL. Features include unbounded retention policies, downsampling tasks, dashboards, alerting checks, and the line-protocol write API compatible with Telegraf and the broad InfluxData client ecosystem (Go, Python, JavaScript, Java, and more). Data persists to a local bolt metadata store and TSM storage engine under a dedicated data directory. MIT license, no vendor lock-in - distinct from the managed InfluxDB Cloud service.

InfluxDB - Hardened Self-Hosted Time Series Database
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run. All five options deliver the same hardened InfluxDB image; they differ only in compute capacity. The t3.small, t3.medium, and t3.large run on burstable instances, letting you scale CPU and memory upward as your workload grows. The m6i.large and m6i.xlarge run on general-purpose instances for steadier compute needs. You choose the size that fits your time series database load, and hourly charges rise with the compute capacity of the instance you select.

What resources come with each hourly instance option?
Each option maps to a single running EC2 instance of the named size. The t3.small, t3.medium, and t3.large are burstable instances with rising CPU and memory. The m6i.large and m6i.xlarge are general-purpose instances with fixed, steady compute. All run the same hardened InfluxDB image.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges apply per running instance-hour. A stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume while the instance is stopped. The software meters only running time.
What security work is included in the image at this hourly rate?
Every instance ships with CIS Level 1 hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, CVE scanning before release, a CycloneDX SBOM, and a CIS Conformance Report bundled inside. Unique credentials generate at first boot. Firewall, fail2ban, AppArmor, and auditd come pre-configured. This applies to all five instance sizes.

The credentials file (admin user, password, organization, bucket, and the all-access
operator token) is written to /root/influxdb-credentials.txt at first boot.
InfluxDB serves its API and web UI over HTTPS on port 8086 with a per-instance
self-signed certificate. For production, replace it with a CA-signed certificate:
copy your cert and key to /etc/influxdb/tls/influxdb.crt and influxdb.key, then run
sudo systemctl restart influxdb. Restrict Security Group port 8086 to trusted IPs.
