What exactly does the hourly charge cover — just the operating system, or my applications too?
The hourly charge covers the hardened Ubuntu 26.04 operating system image for one running instance. It does not cover your own applications, cloud account configuration, or changes you make after deployment. Those remain your responsibility. The verified security baseline applies to the packaged operating system only.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's per-hour software charge.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch to a different instance type?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type and size. The rate follows the instance you run, and it changes automatically when you launch a different type. There is no upfront commitment, so you can move between instance families as needs shift.

Connect to Your Instance
We recommend using AWS Systems Manager Session Manager (SSM) whenever possible. It provides a secure way to access your instance without exposing SSH to the public Internet.
If SSH is enabled, limit port 22 in your security group to your trusted IP address whenever possible. For production environments, we recommend deploying the instance inside a private VPC and using SSM or another controlled access method.
Use the documentation to review the image's security baseline, applied controls, validation results, and any documented exceptions.
