In the United States, your ZIP Code is a better predictor of life expectancy than your genetic code. Access to care is a key factor in individual and community health, as well as overall health equity. HSR.health has launched a series of Care Desert analyses to identify the impact of insufficient healthcare resource availability on outcomes. The Pharmacy Care Desert analysis identifies the locations and communities in the United States where access to pharmacies are severely deficient and may constitute a significant barrier to care for millions of Americans. Pharmacy locations utilized in this analysis were curated from the AWS Overture Dataset and OpenRx.

This dataset can be customized to meet specific needs. For instance, the Care Desert analyses for the US are calculated at the Census tract, ZIP code, and county level as a standard. Custom areas of analysis, such as hospital catchment areas, legislative boundaries, or customer supplied regions are available upon request.
