Description
In the United States, your ZIP Code is a better predictor of life expectancy than your genetic code. Access to care is a key factor in individual and community health, as well as overall health equity. HSR.health Care Desert Initiative identifies the impact of insufficient healthcare resource availability on outcomes - and by healthcare service line.
This dataset provides the locations of women's healthcare facilities across the U.S., the calculated average distance to the nearest Women's Health clinic for each U.S. Census Tract, as well as identifies women's healthcare deserts - those communities with insufficient women's healthcare resources to meet the needs of the population.
The Women's Care Desert analysis identifies the locations and communities in the United States where access to hospitals and other providers of women's healthcare services are severely deficient and may constitute a significant barrier to care for Americans. Women's Health Clinic locations in the U.S. are curated and geocoded from CMS data. Women's health clinic locations include practices that offer: obstetrics, gynecology, certified nurse midwives, and gynecological oncology.
