This listing bills by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. You pay the software rate for each hour an instance runs, on top of standard AWS infrastructure costs. The hundreds of dimensions map to specific instance types across families like general purpose (m, t), compute optimized (c), memory optimized (r, x, z, u), storage optimized (d, i, h), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt). Within each family, hourly rates scale with instance size, from nano and large up to metal and multi-terabyte options. You choose the instance that matches your workload, and pricing follows that choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate pays for the hardened RHEL 8 image from Gigabits. It is charged for each hour an instance runs. This is on top of standard AWS compute, storage, and network costs, which AWS bills separately. The image includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols.
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance accrues no hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an AWS infrastructure cost, not the Gigabits software charge.
Each instance type maps to its own hourly rate. Rates scale with instance size within a family. Moving from a large to a 2xlarge, or to a metal size, applies that type's rate for every hour it runs. You pay only for the type currently running.
