AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. All 26 options bill under the same usage model, so cost scales with the compute capacity you choose. The t2 and t3 families cover smaller, burstable workloads across medium, large, xlarge, and 2xlarge sizes. The m3, m4, and m5 families cover general-purpose workloads and scale up through larger sizes such as 4xlarge, 8xlarge, 10xlarge, 12xlarge, 16xlarge, and 24xlarge. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. Every option includes the same deployment, security, and support service for CKAN.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover beyond the EC2 instance itself?
Each hourly rate includes the CKAN deployment plus the security and support service. You get continuous security scans, a control dashboard for managing the application, and 24/7 support with a 30-minute response target. These services apply the same way across every instance size you choose.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges meter running time only, so a fully powered-off instance stops accruing them. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes. To avoid all software charges, stop the instance when you do not need it.
How do I choose between the t-family and m-family instance options?
The t2 and t3 families suit smaller, burstable workloads that run in short bursts. The m3, m4, and m5 families suit steady general-purpose workloads. Larger sizes within each family give more compute capacity at a higher hourly rate. Match the size to your expected data portal load.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
