Overview
CloudZero is a powerful cloud cost intelligence platform - built to provide visibility, insights, and savings to help drive profitable innovation.
By aligning engineering and finance teams around metrics like cost per product feature, customer, and development team, CloudZero enables teams to manage spend, drive a culture of cost-efficient engineering, and improve cloud unit economics.
Even without perfect tagging, customers can use CloudZero to ingest and allocate billing data, split up shared resources, track Kubernetes costs, track PaaS and SaaS costs (e.g., Snowflake, MongoDB, Databricks, Datadog, New Relic), and get a holistic view of total cloud spend.
CloudZero applies unit cost telemetry for accurate cost-per-tenant measurements. Engineers can self-serve to explore cost data and receive alerts about trends and anomalies. Based on accurate unit cost metrics, organizations can drive go-to-market decisions, such as pricing and discounting.
CloudZero can help answer questions like:
-
How are engineering changes affecting my systems' efficiency and my company's profitability?
-
Where are there immediate and continuous cost savings?
-
How do new product and feature releases impact cloud costs?
-
What's the cost per tenant of shared cloud resources?
-
How much do specific Kubernetes workloads cost?

Cost insights have transformed our cloud spend and create shared accountability across teams
What is our primary use case?
I have been using CloudZero for around two and a half years now.
CloudZero is mainly for cost visibility and tracking engineering spend and checking for any spikes or anomalies in costs.
What happened was that the engineering teams were creating resources for the testing environment. At the end of the day, no one shut those off, and each team was blaming the others while the financial costs were skyrocketing. We utilized CloudZero and saw which costs were rising due to which metrics, analyzed everything, and helped allocate those costs properly and take necessary further actions. We reduced our overall spend by roughly 40% for that particular month.
One of the other features is that we use it for budget forecasting and accountability. Overall, it helps us translate our bills into business metrics that make sense both to engineers and to the finance team.
What is most valuable?
The platform automatically converts the data into meaningful views and helps us keep a good track of all costing. Instead of just showing the cloud bills, it helps us measure cost per transaction, per user, and per API calls, which makes it quite easy to align cost with the overall cloud spend.
Probably the cost visibility using the dashboards is the most valuable, because it provides the overall picture as to where we are heading. It provides an overall good picture without going into depth, but also provides low-level, in-depth pictures.
We have seen a lot of difference in how cost is being handled. Since it provides a better picture of overall cloud visibility and helps in better accountability, there is a better sync between the engineering and finance teams and the overall leadership of the organization. I think that has been a really good outcome.
What needs improvement?
I do not think there are any further issues in CloudZero, but perhaps CloudZero should provide a little more flexibility in how everything is done, such as the structure of the charts and how the costs are being defined. Overall, everything is good.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using CloudZero for around two and a half years now.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think it is really good. We can add more accounts and other resources and just keep adding. It is very scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I think it is all right. I have never contacted them.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We just used the AWSÂ native tools. Since they are only good for basic visibility, they do not provide any in-depth references or breakdown of the costs. That is why we switched to CloudZero. We did not use any other tools.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I do not think we evaluated other options. We read a few reviews online and thought that CloudZero is quite good.
What other advice do I have?
CloudZero helped us save a lot of money. We had a peak saving of roughly around 40 to 50% for a month in this year itself. It varies, and we have an average saving of around 15%, but the highest is 40%. We save on an average 15 to 20% on our costs.
CloudZero is a really good tool. Overall, it bridges the gap between engineering and finance teams. Instead of just tracking the overall spend, it helps us measure cost per API call or per feature or per customer or per account. I think it is overall a really good tool for automation and cost allocation. I rate this product a 10 out of 10. I think organizations should definitely go with CloudZero.
