This AMI ships with the latest available security patches applied at build time. EBS optimisation is enabled by default for consistent storage performance. The image supports EBS volume encryption via AWS KMS, allowing you to meet data-at-rest encryption requirements without additional configuration. Unnecessary services are minimised to reduce the attack surface. Patches are applied with each new AMI revision to align with Oracle critical patch updates.

Smaller shared-core types cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, and accelerated types cost more. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly software charge scales with that selection. The vendor recommends m5.large or larger for this database. The software rate meters running time only, so a stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay separate AWS storage fees for the root volume and the dedicated /u01 Oracle volume while the instance is stopped. Those storage costs are billed by AWS, not the software listing.
Each dimension is one EC2 instance type, so switching changes your hourly software rate to match the new type. Larger compute, memory, storage, or accelerated types carry higher hourly rates.
