Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition AMI by cloudimg
Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition delivers proven Oracle performance, security, and scalability designed for small and mid-size organisations. It supports up to four CPU sockets while including all core relational features and Automatic Storage Management (ASM). This AMI is built, maintained, and supported by cloudimg - specialists in Oracle database deployments on AWS.
Why Choose cloudimg

Our engineers install, operate, and optimise Oracle databases on AWS daily, delivering SLA-backed 24/7/365 ticketing with a guaranteed 24-hour response time and an average one-hour first response. When you choose cloudimg, you get a team that understands both Oracle internals and AWS infrastructure.
Key AWS Benefits
One-click launch - Production ready in minutes on popular Linux AMIs
Enhanced networking (ENA) - Up to 25 Gbps per-flow bandwidth for fast backups and Data Pump transfers
Observability built in - AWS CLI v2, CloudWatch Agent, and SSM Agent come pre-installed for unified monitoring and automation
Hardened baseline - Latest security patches applied plus automatic EBS optimisation for sustained I/O throughput
EBS encryption support - Compatible with AWS KMS-managed encryption for data-at-rest protection
Security and Hardening
This AMI ships with the latest available security patches applied at build time. EBS optimisation is enabled by default for consistent storage performance. The image supports EBS volume encryption via AWS KMS, allowing you to meet data-at-rest encryption requirements without additional configuration. Unnecessary services are minimised to reduce the attack surface. Patches are applied with each new AMI revision to align with Oracle critical patch updates.
Deployment Overview
Launch the AMI from AWS Marketplace on a supported EC2 instance (recommended: memory-optimised instance families such as r5 or r6i)
Configure your security group to allow inbound access on Oracle listener port 1521 from trusted sources only
Connect via SSH to verify pre-installed Oracle components and review the listener configuration
Use SQL*Plus to connect as SYSDBA and configure your initial database schemas
Verify CloudWatch Agent metrics are flowing to your AWS console for ongoing monitoring
Enable automated EBS snapshots for backup and recovery

See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software, billed through your running EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so your rate depends entirely on the size and family you launch. Smaller shared-core types cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, and accelerated types cost more. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly software charge scales with that selection. The vendor recommends m5.large or larger for this database. All options bundle the same preconfigured Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition image with 24/7 support.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for a chosen instance type?
You get an EC2 instance running a preconfigured Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition image. It includes the sample ORCL database, a preconfigured listener on port 1521, helper start and stop scripts, monitoring and management agents, applied security patches, and 24/7 support with a 24-hour response target.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only, so a stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay separate AWS storage fees for the root volume and the dedicated /u01 Oracle volume while the instance is stopped. Those storage costs are billed by AWS, not the software listing.
If I move to a larger instance type later, how does my bill change?
Each dimension is one EC2 instance type, so switching changes your hourly software rate to match the new type. Larger compute, memory, storage, or accelerated types carry higher hourly rates. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance. The vendor recommends m5.large or larger for this database.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
