The hourly rate scales with instance size. Smaller sizes like medium and large carry lower hourly rates; larger sizes such as 16xlarge, 24xlarge, and 48xlarge carry higher rates. What do I actually receive for the hourly rate on each instance dimension?
You get the SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5.4 operating system running on the matching AWS EC2 Arm-based instance you launch. Each dimension pairs the software licence with one specific instance type and size. The rate covers the licensed OS; the underlying AWS compute is billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. AWS may still charge for attached storage while an instance is stopped, but the SUSE licence bills active running time.
If I run several instances at once, how does my bill add up?
Each running instance bills at the hourly rate for its own dimension. Charges accrue independently and add together. Running a memory-optimized and a compute-optimized instance at the same time produces two separate hourly charges on the same invoice. Larger sizes carry higher per-hour rates.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'suse' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
