Rocket.Chat Team Collaboration Server AMI for Secure Messaging
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you pick to run this messaging server. All 37 options bill on the same usage-based model; they differ only by the underlying compute instance. Choices span general-purpose families (t2, t3, t3a, m4, m5, m5a, m6a, m6i, m7a, m7i), compute-optimized families (c5, c5a, c6a), and memory-optimized families (r5, r5a, r6a, r6i). Within each family, sizes range from small through xlarge. Larger or higher-performance instances cost more per hour. Your rate scales with the instance you select, so match the size to your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance option?
The hourly rate covers a pre-configured Rocket.Chat messaging server running on the EC2 instance size you pick. Each option maps to one running EC2 instance with a set number of vCPUs and memory. Larger families and sizes give more compute and memory, so you match the instance to your team size.
Am I charged when the messaging server instance is stopped?
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. When you stop the instance, hourly charges stop. Underlying AWS storage fees for the volume may still apply while the instance is stopped. You can restart the instance later from the EC2 console to resume messaging and hourly billing.
How do I move to a larger instance if my team outgrows the one I chose?
The setup uses a CloudFormation template where you pick the instance type at launch. To change size, back up your server data, remove the current stack, then launch again on the size you want. Your hourly rate then follows the new instance you select.

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
