CalmWave is the world's first transparent AI-powered Hospital Operations Platform that leverages the signals already flowing from hospital monitoring systems and electronic health records to remediate clinical alarm fatigue and, objectively improve nurse retention, measure clinician workloads, and improve patient outcomes.
Includes:
-
Analysis and implementation of noise reduction with identification of top alarm sources and alarm 'characterizations'
-
Pattern-based view of vital signs alarms that allow exploration by patient, room, or provider for each shift, day, week, or month.
-
Macro view of key medical events bucketed into containers of context called 'incidents', providing context about key clinical events.
-
Optimized alarm threshold limit recommendations based on retrospective and real-time data analysis by vital signs device, unit(s), and patients
-
Identified clusters and cohorts based on various inputs collected (including interventions, medications, labs, findings, patient history, and more)
-
Key patient degradation pattern detection, providing early warning or major medical incidents (can be used as a complement to patient acuity scoring)
-
Other recommended actions to reduce over-alarming, based on characterization and safety
-
Improved hospital working conditions due to standardization and automation of alarm thresholds (reducing alarms needing no clinical intervention)
Ongoing support includes on-site training and implementation with our expert services teams. CalmWave also provides integration into vital signs middleware and EMR systems, on-site clinical champions for nurse workflow/SOP/orders, and management support from a nurse manager or designate to discuss KPIs, feedback, documentation, etc.
Currently, ICUs see as high as 771 alerts per patient per day, 80-99% of which are non-actionable. Nurses are spending 35% of their shifts dealing with alarms, which is a contributing factor to why 60% of nurses are burnt out (with a 27% turnover rate, resulting in $5-9M lost annually for the typical 300-bed hospital). Patients are not recovering well due to lack of sleep in noisy ICUs, resulting in an increased risk for ICU delirium.
We created CalmWave to eliminate clinical alarm fatigue to objectively reduce nurse burnout. As a team of esteemed data scientists, clinicians, and alarm experts, we bring cutting-edge solutions from Enterprise IT Operations to healthcare, utilizing the reliability, explainability, and audibility of transparent AI to ensure that patients and providers alike have a better hospital environment.
