You pay by the hour for the AWS EC2 instance that runs this software image. Pricing is not tiered by feature. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, and your rate depends on which one you launch. Options span burstable t2, t3, and t3a families for lighter workloads, plus general-purpose m6 and m7 families in i, id, a, in, idn, and flex variants. Within each family, larger sizes (from nano and large up to metal and 48xlarge) carry more compute, memory, and cost. Billing runs through your AWS account.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what software comes on the instance?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance-hour. The image runs Asterisk 22 on a hardened Ubuntu base. It includes a fail2ban setup tuned against SIP scanners and war-dialers, plus a dedicated security log channel for the PJSIP stack.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software rate. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume. Billing runs through your existing AWS account on one invoice.
If I switch to a larger instance type, does my rate change automatically?
Your hourly rate maps to the specific instance type you launch. Moving to a different type is a manual choice you make when you deploy. Larger sizes carry more compute and memory and a higher hourly rate. Nothing upgrades automatically; you select the type yourself.

SSH in as ubuntu; configuration lives in /etc/asterisk/ (console: sudo asterisk -rvvv).
fail2ban is active and protects SIP against brute force - whitelist your admin IP first: sudo fail2ban-client set asterisk addignoreip <your-ip>.
Open only the ports you use: SIP 5060-5061 and RTP 10000-20000/UDP.
