Powerful Scenario Modeling, Significant Learning Curve

    Reviewed on Apr 19, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate IBM Planning Analytics for its powerful scenario modeling and forecasting engine, which is perfect for dealing with the volatility in our glass, ceramics, and concrete manufacturing business. It allows us to build multiple what‑if models quickly to evaluate risks and adjust plans in real time, transforming how we anticipate cost changes and stabilize margins. Another feature I like is how it unifies financial and operational planning into one system. Unlike spreadsheets, IBM Planning Analytics integrates manufacturing volumes, supply chain plans, procurement expenses, and revenue forecasts seamlessly, eliminating mismatched data and ensuring our plans reflect our actual plant capacity and operational constraints.
What do you dislike about the product?
One pain point is the learning curve and configuration complexity. Setting up new models, adjusting dimensions, or modifying scenario structures often requires support from our analytics team or external consultants; it’s not intuitive enough for general finance or production users to self-serve. Simple changes to planning templates can take longer than expected, slowing down our ability to adapt quickly during peak planning seasons. We also find the user interface somewhat dated and less responsive compared to modern cloud planning tools. Daily users, especially those on the production floor and in logistics, find it less user-friendly, which can reduce adoption and lead to occasional manual workarounds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use IBM Planning Analytics to centralize planning, reducing errors and manual work. Its scenario modeling helps us manage cost volatility, and integrating financial-operational plans aligns budgets with real production data, improving accuracy and decision-making.

Powerful for Financial Planning, But Needs UI Improvements

    Reviewed on Apr 18, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the strong multi-dimensional planning structure of IBM Planning Analytics and its reliable performance for handling project-based data, which suits our information services business well. Its ability to organize budgets and forecasts by project, department, client, and time period makes it more powerful than basic spreadsheets. I can track revenue, resource costs, and margins in detail while still seeing the big financial picture. The forecasting and scenario modeling tools are also standouts, allowing us to quickly test different business cases, which is essential in our dynamic industry. I value its stable integration with our existing project management and ERP systems, which automates data flow and reduces manual work. Its automated forecasting pulls real-time data from our project and ERP systems, maintaining accurate, up-to-date projections and helping us anticipate cash flow needs and adjust staffing plans earlier. Scenario modeling has transformed how we evaluate opportunities and management decisions, completing what-if analyses in minutes. The integration capabilities ensure a unified planning environment that strengthens accountability and allows us to focus on strategy.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the biggest drawbacks is the steep learning curve, especially for non-finance users such as project managers and department leads. Many of our colleagues only need to enter project budget data or review forecasts, but they find the interface overly technical and unintuitive. Simple tasks often require guidance from the finance team, which slows down adoption and creates extra support work. The user interface itself feels somewhat dated and lacks modern, user-friendly design. Navigation can be confusing, with too many clicks needed to access commonly used reports or input screens. Mobile usability is also limited, making it inconvenient for staff working on-site with clients or away from their desks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Planning Analytics centralizes financial planning, replacing spreadsheets and reducing errors. It streamlines project-based budgeting, tracks client-specific expenses, and forecasts revenue in real time, saving us manual reconciliation time and providing unified data for accurate decision-making.

Transforms Financial Planning but Needs UI Improvement

    Reviewed on Apr 18, 2026

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate how IBM Planning Analytics combines powerful multidimensional modeling with reliable performance. It lets us structure data by product lines, sales regions, production sites, and time periods all at once, making it easy to slice and compare performance for seasonal planning and promotions. The forecasting and scenario-planning tools stand out the most for our industry. We regularly model changes in raw material prices, seasonal demand spikes, and marketing campaign impacts, and the platform handles these complex what-if simulations smoothly without slowing down. This has been a game-changer for staying agile in consumer goods, where market conditions shift quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
One major pain point is the steep learning curve. Many of our sales, production, and marketing staff only need to enter budget updates or view basic reports, but they find the interface and navigation unintuitive and overly complex. Simple tasks sometimes require extra training or support from the finance team, which slows down departmental participation. The outdated user interface is another issue. It lacks the modern, mobile-friendly design found in newer planning tools. Accessing forecasts or approving budgets on the go is cumbersome, which is inconvenient when our managers are visiting production facilities or meeting retail partners.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Planning Analytics unifies our financial data, eliminating spreadsheet errors and delays. It improves accurate forecasting, helps manage inventory, and enhances budget visibility, supporting fast decision-making. We use it for strategic scenario planning and integrated data management, which transforms our planning efficiency.

Streamlined Planning with Room for Improvement

    Reviewed on Apr 16, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about IBM Planning Analytics is how it turns messy, disconnected spreadsheet data into a single, reliable planning system that perfectly fits our small furniture manufacturing business in Krumbach. As a company with only 12-15 employees, we don’t have a large finance or data team, so simplicity and usability matter greatly. The platform lets us easily build forecasts for material costs, production timelines, and project profitability without advanced technical skills. I especially appreciate its strong forecasting capabilities and real-time data visibility. We can quickly update cost assumptions for wood, fittings, and labor, and instantly see how changes affect margins on custom furniture orders. The reporting features are straightforward and generate clear, professional overviews that help us make quick, confident decisions. It also integrates smoothly with our existing workflows, reducing repetitive manual work and freeing our team to focus on craftsmanship and customer projects instead of data entry.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system feels overly heavy for a small workshop. Some advanced modules for complex supply chain and financial planning are irrelevant to our custom furniture production, yet they take up storage and complicate the interface. Integration with our local production software can be inconsistent, often requiring manual data checks to ensure accuracy between material orders and project plans.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I find IBM Planning Analytics streamlines our production and financial planning, improves budget accuracy, reduces manual entry, and enhances decision-making. It centralizes planning information and helps track costs while supporting quick, data-driven decisions in our custom furniture business.

Powerful Financial Planning, Needs UI Improvement

    Reviewed on Apr 14, 2026

What do you like best about the product?
I like how IBM Planning Analytics brings unmatched clarity and control to our complex consumer goods planning in Berlin, especially at the SKU and product-line level. It centralizes all our financial, sales, and supply chain data in one place, so we no longer waste hours reconciling conflicting numbers or chasing updated files. The ability to build detailed, real-time forecasts and run instant what-if scenarios has completely transformed how we plan for raw material costs, seasonal demand, and promotions. For a business with hundreds of SKUs across Germany, this level of agility is invaluable.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest issue is its user interface, which feels dated and overly technical for non-FP&A team members. Our sales and supply chain staff in Berlin often find it unintuitive and struggle with basic navigation, which slows down adoption. Many end-users stick to exported Excel files instead of using the platform directly. First, the learning curve is still too steep for casual users. Simplified, role-based dashboards for sales, production, and logistics staff—instead of one complex interface—would encourage more people to use the system directly instead of relying on exported spreadsheets. Second, better mobile and offline access would help our field and warehouse teams in and around Berlin input data or check forecasts on the go, rather than waiting until they’re at a desk. The initial setup of IBM Planning Analytics was functional but not particularly easy, especially for our Berlin-based consumer goods team without deep TM1 technical experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Planning Analytics centralizes our financial and operational data, eliminating Excel chaos and errors. It streamlines budgeting and forecasting, improving SKU profitability analysis. It solves demand forecasting issues, reduces waste, and facilitates rapid scenario planning for better decision-making.
