Hands-on labs and guided paths have boosted our team’s skills and career growth
What is our primary use case?
I have been dealing with Red Hat Learning Subscription for two years. From the last two years, we have this e-learning process already in place, and Red Hat has been part of our organization since 2012. I work with the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform as I studied about this one. I have never worked on this one, but I have the knowledge.
What is most valuable?
If I had to say something positive, one advantage for Red Hat Learning Subscription would be that it is called RHLS. It is an official online platform where they offer full access to the Red Hat course catalog. It has hands-on labs. It has certification exam vouchers, both instructor-led training, and guided learning paths. It helps novice customers start a career in Red Hat.
The hands-on lab environment helps with the learning experience. For a simple account, if I want to study Red Hat basic commands, we have a Red Hat certified administrator. Many people, especially Windows users, may not know how to edit a VI editor. You will get a virtualized environment server to have hands-on experience.
I would agree that it helps with career development. For a manager, if I have a team, it is not just about making them work. We have to think about their career development. They will not remain in the company for long without growth. Companies benefit from growing their employees.
For training materials, the quality is high, crafted by direct RHCL instructors.
What needs improvement?
Regarding disadvantages in the product or areas for improvement, I say price. The price is the main issue. The content of some high-end courses is very complex. RHCL itself is complex, so do not expect it to be as easy as Windows. Every subscription has its drawbacks. It can only be used once a year.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with Red Hat products for around 14 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Red Hat Learning Subscription is a stable service. I have not experienced problems with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is actually an online offering which is done by an OEM. There is no matter of scalability or need to be scaled. We are consuming what they have, so there is no point of scaling anything.
How are customer service and support?
In terms of technical support from Red Hat, I say support is good. I can give it 8.5 points for support from zero to ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Red Hat Learning Subscription, I have been using Microsoft and VMware for similar products for comparison.
How was the initial setup?
Regarding installation and deployment, it does not require installation. It is completely web-based and it is in the cloud.
What was our ROI?
If we speak about return on investment, it is possible to observe ROI in this product. You are investing in resources. This is all related to the resources. Without resources, you cannot achieve anything. Return on investment is 100%.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would say it is quite expensive. It is for a big enterprise only. Because spending $8,000 for a user might not be good for a small office. I would agree that it helps much with career development. We have to think about the career development of these people. They will not remain in my company for a long time. They have to grow accordingly and our company has to get the benefit out of that. The cost varies by region. It ranges from $3,000 to $6,500 for a standard subscription.
What other advice do I have?
As for container products like container security and Kubernetes , I am working on OpenShift and I am working on Canonical. Canonical is actually Ubuntu . Ubuntu has a different flavor known as Canonical. Ubuntu Pro versions are known as Canonical.
I am not working with specific things like Docker , MySQL on Ubuntu , Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu , PostgreSQL on Ubuntu , because whenever we require, we will study it and do it. I am not a specialist on this one, but I can do it.
I have heard and used developer tools like MetaDefender , Kubernetes Everywhere , Portnox , Scalops, and InfoScale , but I am not a developer. I am an infra level consultant.
For e-learning, we have Red Hat e-learning. I can consider myself a consultant for Red Hat because I am actually a consultant for Red Hat. Red Hat e-learning is not a product. For example, you have a product and you have to educate this one to the customers. Either you will go to the public to a training center and do it from there. Here what we do is we give all the trainings in a particular amount. In a subscription period, you will have a complete list of trainings.
As for the hands-on lab environment, it helps with the learning experience in general. For a very simple account, if I want to study the basic commands for Red Hat, we have a Red Hat certified administrator. Most people do not know how to list the details or how to edit a VI editor, particularly Windows users. You will get a virtualized environment as a server where you can directly enter and have hands-on experience with it. There are two types of tiers, Premium tier and Standard tier. It depends upon the tier. We will have around 100 to 400 hours. Both will have examination attempts. Five times we can try for an example and plus a five-time retake also.
If I assess the value of role-based learning paths within Red Hat Learning Subscription, for example, I am the owner of my Red Hat subscriptions. I will have points on my hand. Learning credits will be landed on your customer portal. I can nominate. For example, I have a team of five people. I can take a certain number of units for this. I have to go to the portal and see it. Every subscription has a number of units. If I allocate one user, they can do it alone. We do not want to share anything. Role-based access also is there.
I can track my progress with the skill assessments available in the product. I can see how many people attended what type of course, what type of trainings, and what is the progress. How many people failed, how many people got the certificate, all the things.
If I compare on a bigger scale to see the full picture, I would say Red Hat is better in its way. The reason is because of the hands-on labs and training materials. Everyone having hands-on labs and everything. For Red Hat, it has hands-on labs. I love Linux, so maybe because of that, it came to my mind. Windows, we have the same scenarios. That is also good. VMware, now in Broadcom, has a VCF customer care, VCF customer satisfaction training availability. That is also very good. Multiple vendors are having these, but all come with a price tag.
My overall rating for this product is 8.5 out of 10.
Role-based training has expanded my skills and guides my path for career growth
What is our primary use case?
I was seeking more information on products for business cases, which was my major use case for Red Hat Learning Subscription .
What is most valuable?
I was dealing with the product for training subscriptions for approximately a month or so. Red Hat Learning Subscription is very good as it allows you to do self-paced training, but there is also online training or on-demand training. You have on-demand training and other types of training such as virtual classroom. They are all of a high standard and the quality of education is very good.
I have been using the hands-on lab environment when dealing with Red Hat Learning Subscription. The labs are good, and I did not experience any problems or things not working as expected. I did not really require any assistance to fix things to work further with it. It is of high quality and standard.
Role-based training in the sense of a whole stack of training to reach a certain point in relation to my assessment of this aspect can work well. If you don't have as much experience or exposure, in certain aspects it will probably work better if you are just more selective as to what you want. You can choose your own path.
I tracked my progress with the skill assessments online before doing the training for Red Hat Learning Subscription. I did some of those as well. It is more a general guidance type of thing. It gives a fairish view of where you are at.
I agree that it was useful for my career development, as it gives you a view of where your shortcomings are and then you can plan accordingly as to which courses you need to take.
Definitely, the learning paths helped me utilize Red Hat technologies more effectively. I wouldn't say you know everything and obviously one forgets, so you have to practice and there is some discipline you have to apply towards learning these technologies. The quality is good, so you learn the technologies and have the opportunity to learn the technologies very well, but you still have to put in the effort.
What needs improvement?
One example of disadvantages I have seen in Red Hat Learning Subscription would be the human factor, which is present in any case anywhere, so it is not really a critique. Virtual classroom training can probably cause misunderstandings sometimes, as one can misinterpret what is being said because it is a virtual type of classroom. Otherwise, it is very good.
For how long have I used the solution?
It was used for about a month, or maybe two months for Red Hat Learning Subscription training, more on virtual classroom, but previously I did on-demand training as well.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Regarding the stability of the product, I would say it was good. I didn't experience any issues, so I would give it a 10.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would give it a seven for scalability because the labs couldn't be as powerful, but they were sufficient enough.
How are customer service and support?
I cannot really rate the technical support from Red Hat because I didn't require support with the training.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Negative
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have probably just used Udemy courses and books before, but not similar to this standard.
How was the initial setup?
I would rate the installation and ease of deployment from zero to 10 an eight, as I would say it is challenging, but that is the whole point. You need to challenge yourself with the installations on the labs. It is easy enough to follow along, but it is not too easy. You actually learn and actually grow.
What was our ROI?
I have not observed some return on investment as yet, but it definitely broadens knowledge as to what works and what doesn't work and how to reach a certain point to get to a position where you can actually get a return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would say it is expensive in general for Red Hat Learning Subscription. A company will have to assist in paying for it. It is not something somebody can do out of pocket.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I wouldn't say there is anything comparatively as good as Red Hat Learning Subscription on the market.
What other advice do I have?
I am not really right now in relation with these products, but I have done some research, but not really anything substantial that I can provide. The only thing that you can probably look at is maybe that OpenShift can run on all cloud platforms as a cloud platform.
Continuous lab access has strengthened my hands-on skills and supported ongoing certifications
What is our primary use case?
Red Hat Learning Subscription provides video classes, recorded classrooms, materials, updated courses, and labs. The major advantage is the very good lab setup where I can do all hands-on practice.
The hands-on lab helps with my learning experience and is unlimited. I can do the practice, and especially those looking for certification can do all kinds of practices in this environment. I can delete and recreate the labs myself, and those features are also available.
What is most valuable?
Red Hat Learning Subscription offers a list of courses with labs available. They provide 90 days and one-month subscription options. Accordingly, I can access video classes, recorded classrooms, materials, and lab setup for hands-on learning.
The biggest advantage of Red Hat Learning Subscription is the lab facility and the materials are also good.
I appreciate the hands-on lab environment with Red Hat lab environment in their cloud.
In the learning portal, I can track how many courses I attended, what my progress is, and how many certificates I have taken.
Red Hat Learning Subscription helps with my career development.
This learning portal is very good for learning about Red Hat products. Whatever new things are coming, I can access this portal and learn, spend my time in practice and learning.
Red Hat Learning Subscription has separate material for the labs and separate material for the entire course. There is guided instruction for the lab as well. If I want only the practice for the lab, I can go directly to the lab material and do not need to look at the entire documents about the course.
What needs improvement?
As an individual accessing the portal, it is a little expensive. When I did not have partner access and was subscribing to Red Hat Learning Subscription, I felt it was costly.
Red Hat Learning Subscription is offered for 90 days. If purchasing the subscription, they should give more time instead because some courses are very lengthy. People may need more time since they are spending time outside of their working time, so the duration needs to be increased.
There is a latency issue with Red Hat Learning Subscription sometimes. I cannot say if it depends on my internet or their internet.
The only concerns I see about Red Hat Learning Subscription are the price being a little expensive and stability issues, as there is sometimes latency.
For how long have I used the solution?
As a partner, I have been using Red Hat Learning Subscription for the last three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of Red Hat Learning Subscription as eight to eight and a half.
How would you rate stability?
Positive
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate scalability as nine.
How would you rate scalability?
Positive
How are customer service and support?
I would rate technical support with Red Hat Learning Subscription as ten. There is an easily accessible chat option along with this training. In the same portal itself, if I face any issue, I can ask the agent and they will support it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used SUSE one also. I cannot judge that one because I did not use SUSE much. I need time to look into that one also because I did not use that for long, only very small training or details. I cannot compare it. With Red Hat, I have spent a lot of time, but with SUSE, I did not spend time, so I cannot compare.
How was the initial setup?
Red Hat Learning Subscription is very simple to install and deploy. I do not need to install Red Hat Learning Subscription. I am directly accessing the Red Hat portal and connecting to the Red Hat cloud. I am registering through a browser and start using it. I am not installing it on my laptop, on my premise, or anywhere in another cloud. I am not installing it, not even in AWS .
What was our ROI?
Red Hat Learning Subscription is worth its money, so it is a worth investment.
What other advice do I have?
I do not really work with JBoss. I do not really have any insights on the value of role-based learning paths within Red Hat Learning Subscription. I do not use any specific metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the product. I am not clear about the question regarding metrics. I do not have anything to say about the negative side of Red Hat Learning Subscription. Red Hat Learning Subscription learning portal subscription is very simple. I would rate this review as ten.
Training platform has supported hands-on learning and continues to develop employee careers
What is our primary use case?
Red Hat Learning Subscription is used for employee training and learning. The e-learning solution serves as our primary training platform.
What is most valuable?
Ansible provides automation capabilities that deliver significant value. The solution saves time, which is one of the primary benefits.
Red Hat Learning Subscription offers access to almost all courses, providing flexibility to users. Red Hat Learning Subscription's hands-on lab environment enhances the learning experience by allowing people to gain more hands-on experience and practice.
What needs improvement?
Role-based learning paths within the tool are not utilized. The course structure is relatively simple, and we do not implement role-based path setup in that manner.
Progress is tracked through skill assessments for each employee, but Red Hat Learning Subscription is not heavily used for this purpose. We have our own method to check progress and do not rely on the vendor's path tracking to monitor employees.
Red Hat Learning Subscription's learning portal is adequate and very good. However, Red Hat's product portfolio needs to expand. Currently, it focuses only on Red Hat Linux, Ansible , and JBoss, which represents a very small market. Red Hat has only two major products on the market at this moment.
Red Hat Learning Subscription's pricing is acceptable, but I would suggest splitting some categories. The learning portal currently includes everything related to all Red Hat products. However, some people focus only on specific roles. For example, some focus solely on the Ansible role, while others focus only on Linux. My team is a Linux team, so we only need content related to Red Hat Linux. Developers might want to focus on Ansible without much involvement with Red Hat Linux. If the portal could be split into separate portals such as a JBoss portal and an Ansible portal that focus exclusively on their respective course offerings, it would make selection easier. Rather than having users choose from everything and potentially only take two or three courses out of fifty or sixty available courses, categorizing the courses and reducing prices would attract more people to subscribe.
For new hire employees with no experience, Red Hat Learning Subscription definitely helps them understand red hat technologies more effectively. However, my employees have been working here for ten years. They have been studying and refreshing their knowledge across Red Hat versions six through ten, so they already understand most of the material.
For how long have I used the solution?
Ansible has been in use for approximately six to seven years. As a manager, I do not directly work with it, so I cannot recall the exact timeframe.
What other advice do I have?
I am not the right person to assess the value of Ansible's pre-built roles or playbooks in automation efforts because I do not use it directly. My team uses it, and I am unable to provide detailed technical assessments at that level.
My team does not utilize the agentless architecture.
Red Hat Learning Subscription helps with career development for employees.
Red Hat's support is rated at an eight at this moment. The overall review rating for this product is nine.
