Overview
Full Stack Kubernetes
NEONKUBE is a full-stack, production ready Kubernetes distribution aimed at developers who want to deploy production services to Kubernetes. It provides everything needed to run production services out-of-the box, with a greatly improved developer experience.
NEONKUBE runs the same everywhere, from a laptop to on-premises servers, to the cloud. This means that a developer can code and test against a laptop cluster and have confidence that it will work the same in the cloud. Highlights
Service Mesh Istio provides traffic management, security and observability for the cluster network.
Certificate Management Cert Manager provides automated certificate provisioning and renewal.
Object Storage Minio provides S3 compatible object storage.
Container Attached Storage OpenEBS enables developers to run stateful workloads on Kubernetes by providing local and/or distributed Kubernetes Persistent Volumes.
Container Registry NEONKUBE includes a built-in container registry for hosting container images.
Single Sign On Dex helps to abstract identity management. Dex is compatible with providers such as GitHub, Google, Microsoft, AWS, as well as federating with enterprise authentication solutions like Microsoft Active Directory.
Observability Prometheus, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir, and Loki form our monitoring stack, providing visibility into what happening in a cluster.
neon desktop neon desktop is our graphical user interface. This can be installed on workstations and laptops and is used to deploy and manage clusters.
neon cli neon cli is a command line tool that wraps and extends the functionality provided by other Kubernetes tools like kubectl, helm, and kustomize and is also used to deploy and manage clusters.
vm sizes and pricing NEONKUBE currently runs on 64-bit AMD/Intel based virtual machines with at least 2 vCPUs and 8GB RAM. VMs with 2 vCPUs may be used for control-plane nodes and we don't charge any extra fees for these. Worker nodes require instance sizes with at least 4 vCPUs and 8GB RAM and you may also use these for control-plane nodes. NEONKUBE charges an additional (US) $0.02/hour for each vCPU for virtual machine sizes with 4 or more vCPUs (for both worker and control-plane nodes)

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
This is a fully functional NEONKUBE release that is based on KUBERNETES v1.24 which is no longer supported. We're in the process upgrading to KUBERNETES v1.29 which is scheduled to be released early December 2023. We're also planning on switching from the Calico CNI to Cilium for better performance due to their eBPF network proxy implementation as well as their service mesh.
This is categorized as a BETA release because we're expecting the Kubernetes and Cilium changes to introduce breaking changes.
