You pay by the hour for a pre-built Mattermost collaboration server running on AWS. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, you choose the EC2 instance type that hosts the software, and each instance type carries its own hourly rate. Your cost scales with the compute size you pick. Smaller instances like t3.micro and t2.nano suit light use, while sizes such as x1e.32xlarge, u-24tb1.metal, and p4d.24xlarge fit heavier workloads. The software runs the same across all options; only the underlying compute capacity and its hourly rate change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What exactly does one hourly charge cover for a given instance type?
One hour covers the software running on a single EC2 instance of that type. The rate reflects the compute capacity of the instance you select. You pay for each hour the instance runs, counted per instance. Running two instances of the same type doubles the hourly software charge.
Am I charged the hourly rate when the instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still incur separate AWS charges while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Can I move to a larger or smaller instance type later?
Yes. Since pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type, you can switch to another type and your hourly rate changes to match the new instance. The software runs the same across all instance types; only the compute capacity and hourly rate differ.
