This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use LAMP stack with Apache, MySQL, PHP 8.3, phpMyAdmin and Webmin. Launch your PHP website or app in minutes, with unique passwords for every instance.

    Overview

LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) is the most widely used stack for PHP websites and applications. This image gives developers, agencies and small businesses a production-ready LAMP server in minutes, so you can deploy a PHP site, a framework application such as Laravel, or a CMS without installing and wiring the stack yourself.

What is included: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Apache 2.4 with mod_rewrite, PHP 8.3 with FPM and the common extensions, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin 5.2 for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. A welcome page at the server's address confirms the stack is running; replace it with your own site in /var/www/html. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own MySQL root and Webmin passwords. SSH accepts key-based login only, MySQL listens only on the local machine, and every component is installed from its official source on Canonical's Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Apache, MySQL Community Edition, PHP, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are open source software under their own licences. All trademarks belong to their respective owners; this image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.

    Highlights

    • Ready in minutes: launch the instance and upload your PHP site to /var/www/html. Apache 2.4, MySQL 8.0, PHP 8.3, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured, with no packages to set up.
    • Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot, SSH is key-only, and the database is not exposed to the internet.
    • Manage it your way: create databases in phpMyAdmin, manage the server, users and services from Webmin in your browser, or work over SSH. Apache has mod_rewrite enabled for common PHP frameworks.

    Dimensions summary

You pay an hourly software charge that is the same across every instance type listed. The many dimensions here are EC2 instance choices, not pricing tiers. Each one maps to a specific compute shape, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families. Picking a instance type sets your EC2 compute cost; the software charge runs per hour on top. Billing stops when you stop the instance. A free trial period applies before hourly charges begin. Choose the instance based on the workload you need, then multiply runtime hours by the rate.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

You pay two separate charges. The software charge runs per hour for the LAMP image itself, at a flat rate across all instance types. On top of that, AWS bills your own EC2 compute costs for the instance type you pick. Both appear on your usual AWS bill.
No. The hourly software charge accrues only while the instance runs. Stop the instance and the software charge stops. Underlying AWS storage for the root volume may still apply, since that is an EC2 cost billed by AWS, separate from the software charge.
No. The per-hour software charge is the same across every instance type listed. Choosing a bigger shape only raises your EC2 compute cost, which AWS bills separately. The software charge depends on runtime hours, not on the size or family of the instance you select.

    Vendor refund policy

Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Usage instructions

Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser. Wait for the instance health checks to pass. You will then see the LAMP welcome page. Upload your website files to /var/www/html. You can access phpMyAdmin at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin and use root as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can access Webmin at http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and use admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also access the instance over SSH using the username ubuntu and your Amazon private key. Required inbound ports are 22 for SSH, 80 for your website and phpMyAdmin, and 8000 for Webmin. For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address. Allow one to two minutes after launch for first-boot setup to finish. Every instance generates its own passwords on first boot. Change passwords after first sign-in using sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_mysql.sh and sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_webmin.sh. Before production use, add your own domain and TLS certificate or place the instance behind an HTTPS load balancer.
