You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. All 21 dimensions cover the same software with maintenance support; they differ only by the underlying compute size you select. Options span burstable general-purpose instances (t2 and t3 families), fixed general-purpose instances (m3, m4, m5), compute-optimized instances (c3, c4, c5), and memory-optimized instances (r3, r4, r5). Larger or higher-capacity instances carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance that matches your workload's CPU and memory needs, and billing scales with the hours you use.

What does one billing unit represent for each instance type?
One unit is one hour of running the EMQX software on the EC2 instance type you select. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size with its own CPU and memory. You pay for each hour the instance runs, counted per instance you launch.
Am I charged the hourly rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still owe separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
What is included besides the software when I run one of these instances?
Each hourly rate covers the EMQX software on Ubuntu 26.04 plus maintenance support from the vendor. Support includes version upgrades, security upgrades, and vulnerability handling, available around the clock. Underlying AWS compute and infrastructure charges are billed separately by AWS.
