You pay by the hour for the database running on an Amazon EC2 virtual machine. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you select. Options span several families, including t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, c5d, and r5. Within each family, prices scale with instance size, from small or micro up through larger multi-xlarge and metal configurations. Larger instances carry more CPU and memory, which raises the hourly rate. You can run it in any AWS region on these supported instance types.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get an Amazon Machine Image running the Informix database server on an EC2 virtual machine. The hourly rate covers the software licence. The instance type you pick sets its CPU and memory. You can add storage and tune settings like CPU VPs or buffer-pool size to match your workload.
Am I charged when the EC2 instance is stopped or powered off?
The software licence meters running hours. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume once you start the instance again.
What happens to my cost if I move to a different EC2 instance type?
Each dimension bills independently at its own hourly rate. You pay only for the instance type you are currently running. Switching to a different type changes your rate going forward. There is no automatic tier upgrade; you choose the instance when you provision or re-provision the virtual machine.
