SPOOC automatically discovers every Amazon RDS instance and Aurora cluster across all connected AWS accounts and regions. It analyzes usage patterns, identifies genuinely idle time, and surfaces databases that are safe candidates for automated cost savings - turning manual, error-prone audits into continuous background automation.
Dev/Test databases off nights and weekends can yield up to approximately 65% compute savings. Non-production databases off weeknights only can yield up to approximately 35% compute savings. SPOOC calculates and displays the real, resource-specific dollar figure for every database before you commit to a schedule, and tracks real accumulated savings afterward.
Intelligent Scheduling with Dependency Awareness
SPOOC coordinates entire shutdown and startup sequences automatically. It maps EC2 instances, Auto Scaling Groups, and ECS services tied to each database, then stops dependent compute first and confirms it is down before touching the database. On startup, the database is confirmed available before the application tier restarts. This ordering is enforced in code - not left to runbooks or manual intervention.
Drift enforcement detects when a database is restarted outside its schedule (by a teammate, another tool, or AWS's own seven-day restart policy) and safely restores it to its intended state within minutes.
Safety Controls Built In
Every stop or start action is validated against real resource state before execution. Protected-resource tagging, active client connection checks, and pending AWS maintenance checks all independently guard against unsafe shutdowns. A schedule firing alone is never sufficient justification for action.
