Ubuntu 26.04 runner image for hatchrun, which runs each GitHub Actions job on a fresh EC2 instance in your own AWS account. The instance runs one job and powers off. The image is free; you pay only for the EC2 instances and storage your jobs use.
hatchrun runs self-hosted GitHub Actions runners in your own AWS account. For every queued job it launches a fresh EC2 instance from this image, runs exactly that job and terminates the instance. Nothing carries over from one job to the next.
The image is Ubuntu 26.04 and stays compatible with GitHub hosted runners where workflows depend on it: a runner user with passwordless sudo, /opt/hostedtoolcache, ImageOS, rootful Docker with Buildx, and preinstalled toolchains that setup-* actions use without downloading. Every build runs a compatibility suite of common actions and Docker workloads before release, ships with an SBOM and a vulnerability scan, and is rebuilt weekly.
The image does nothing on its own. An instance launched by hand boots normally and stays idle. Connect your AWS account and GitHub organization at https://hatchrun.io, or run the open-source scaler yourself: https://github.com/hatchrun/hatchrun

This software is free to subscribe. Each row maps to one AWS EC2 instance type, billed hourly at a zero software fee. You pick the instance size that fits each job, from small burstable types to large compute, memory, storage, and high-performance options. The product launches a fresh instance per job and terminates it when the job ends. You pay AWS directly for the instances your jobs run, so your own AWS discounts and Spot prices apply. Pricing scales with instance size and run time, not with any per-user or tier charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type?
Each row is one AWS EC2 instance type, billed per hour of run time. The software fee is zero, so an hour meters the time one instance runs a single job. hatchrun launches a fresh instance per job and terminates it when the job ends.
Am I charged a software fee when a runner instance is stopped or between jobs?
No software fee applies at any time, since the listing is free. Each instance runs one job, then terminates, so nothing keeps running between jobs. You pay AWS directly for the instance-hours your jobs use. No instance means no instance charge.
How does choosing a larger instance type change what I pay?
Software stays free across every instance type. Your actual cost comes from the AWS price for the type you select, charged per hour. Larger compute, memory, storage, or high-performance types carry higher AWS hourly rates. Your own AWS discounts and Spot prices apply.
