Collect, clean and route logs on your own instance. Vector 0.58.0 accepts JSON over HTTPS with a password, redacts sensitive fields with a VRL program, buffers to disk and writes to a local file. An S3 sink example is included. Built-in walkthrough on Ubuntu 24.04.
Collect, clean and route logs on an instance you control. This image runs Vector 0.58.0 with an authenticated HTTPS JSON ingest, a redaction step that masks sensitive fields, a bounded disk buffer and a local file destination, with an example S3 sink you can enable.
Launch the approved version on t3.medium with at least 16 GiB encrypted root storage and at least 2 GiB RAM. Connect with AWS Systems Manager as ubuntu or restrict SSH to your administrative CIDR. First boot writes TLS material and an HTTP basic password; nothing sensitive is baked into the image. Vector listens on loopback only: HTTPS JSON ingest at 127.0.0.1:8687, API health at 127.0.0.1:8686, and Prometheus metrics at 127.0.0.1:9598. It also reads JSON lines from a local directory, applies a reviewed VRL redaction program, and writes a local file through a bounded disk buffer. Keep credentials out of recordings and tickets.
The standard software fee is described in the AWS Marketplace offer terms. EC2, EBS and data-transfer charges are billed separately. See the offer terms for applicable billing promotions.
After launch, wait for cloud-init to finish, then follow the bundled README for configuration, backup and day-2 operations. IAM is optional until you add a customer S3 sink.
Reach it from other machines: To accept logs from other hosts, put a proxy you control in front of Vector, or change the address of the http_in source to the instance's private IP and allow only your own network in the security group. Do not bind it to 0.0.0.0 or open it to the internet.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for independent AWS packaging, validation, maintenance and setup documentation. Datadog authors Vector under MPL-2.0; Software Sushi supplies the AMI recipe, pinned official Vector 0.58.0 linux/amd64 archive, first-boot TLS and HTTP basic password, loopback defaults, and setup documentation without claiming upstream endorsement.

Try this product free for 5 days according to the free trial terms set by the vendor. Usage-based pricing is in effect for usage beyond the free trial terms. Your free trial gets automatically converted to a paid subscription when the trial ends, but may be canceled any time before that.
You pay one usage-based rate billed per running instance-hour on a t3.medium EC2 instance. This is the only pricing dimension, so there are no tiers or size options to compare. Billing accrues for each hour the instance runs, and stops when you stop the instance. The software charge is separate from AWS infrastructure costs. AWS bills EC2, EBS, and data transfer separately under your own account.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What EC2 instance resources do I get on the t3.medium hourly rate?
The software runs on a single t3.medium EC2 instance in your account. It bundles Vector 0.58.0 with HTTPS and file ingest, a VRL redaction step, a bounded disk buffer, and a local file destination. You add your own credentials and configuration after launch; the image ships with no live secrets.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge accrues per running instance-hour on the t3.medium. A fully stopped instance stops the software charge. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached EBS volumes. AWS bills EC2, EBS, and data transfer separately under your own account.
What costs are not included in the hourly software price?
The hourly rate covers only the software license. AWS infrastructure such as EC2 compute, EBS storage, and data transfer is billed separately in your own account. The listing does not include support for the underlying Vector project itself. You supply your own credentials and configuration after launch.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Launch t3.medium (16 GiB or larger encrypted gp3, IMDSv2) with an instance profile that has AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore and outbound HTTPS. No inbound rules are needed. Copy-paste launch kit (role, security group, run-instances, CloudFormation): https://docs.softwaresushi.com/launch-kit/
Connect: aws ssm start-session --target <instance-id>. After cloud-init finishes, run: sudo -iu ubuntu bash /opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh (expect a final line ending in DEMO_PASSED).
Use it: Check health on the instance: curl 127.0.0.1:8686/health. Send records as JSON with a POST to port 8687 (path /ingest) over HTTPS, user vector, trusting /etc/vector/tls/cert.pem. Accepted records appear under /var/lib/vector/out/.
Secrets and access: The ingest password is the VECTOR_HTTP_PASSWORD line in /var/lib/vector/vector.env (read with sudo cat). To send from your computer, forward port 8687: aws ssm start-session --target <instance-id> --document-name AWS-StartPortForwardingSession --parameters '{"portNumber":["8687"],"localPortNumber":["8687"]}'
Reach it from another host: Vector listens on loopback. Either put a proxy you control in front of it, or change the address of the http_in source to the instance's private IP and allow only your own network in the security group. Do not bind it to 0.0.0.0 or open it to the internet.
