Qdrant is an open source vector database for semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Store embeddings and query by similarity from your AI apps. This Ubuntu 24.04 AMI runs single-node Qdrant 1.19.2 with HTTP and gRPC on the loopback interface, an API key generated per instance and persistent local storage, sized for prototypes and small workloads.
Overview
Qdrant 1.19.2 stores vectors (embeddings) with JSON payloads and returns the nearest matches with filtering, which is the retrieval layer behind semantic search, recommendations and RAG chatbots. This AMI is for developers who want a private single-node vector store for prototypes and small workloads in their own AWS account, with data on an EBS volume they control and the API kept off the public internet.
What you get: Qdrant (Software Sushi source-derived build of upstream 1.19.2) with HTTP on port 6333 and gRPC on port 6334 bound to the loopback interface, a unique API key generated on first boot (/etc/qdrant/credentials, root-only), and storage plus snapshots persisted under /var/lib/qdrant. Cluster mode, the bundled web UI, CORS and telemetry are disabled. The helper /opt/sushi/bin/qdrant-api makes authenticated calls without printing the key. Qdrant itself needs no AWS API permissions.
Getting started takes a few minutes: launch t3.medium (4 GiB RAM, 16 GiB encrypted gp3 or larger, IMDSv2), attach an instance profile with AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore, allow outbound HTTPS and keep the security group free of inbound rules. Connect with Session Manager and run bash /opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh as ubuntu. It creates a demo collection, upserts and searches vectors, and confirms that unauthenticated calls are rejected. Then create your own collection with qdrant-api, or forward port 6333 with AWS-StartPortForwardingSession to use any Qdrant client with the API key. The bundled guide covers backup, restore and an optional private proxy with TLS.
Software fee: USD 0.02 per running t3.medium instance-hour with the first five days free for one concurrent instance; the same full software runs throughout and there is no product-imposed time, user or usage limit. Additional concurrent instances incur software fees. EC2, EBS and data transfer are billed separately. No annual offer is configured.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for independent AWS packaging, validation, maintenance and setup documentation (https://qdrant.tech/documentation/ ). Qdrant Solutions GmbH authors Qdrant under the Apache-2.0 license. Software Sushi supplies the AMI recipe, native build and setup guide without claiming upstream endorsement; Qdrant Solutions GmbH support is not included.

Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The t3.medium instance gives you about 4 GiB of memory. You run it with an encrypted gp3 root volume of at least 16 GiB. This spec suits smaller vector collections. For larger collections, you launch the image on a larger instance and volume.
The hourly software fee applies while the instance runs. If you stop the instance, the software charge stops. You may still pay AWS separately for stored EBS volumes and other kept resources, since AWS bills EC2, EBS, and data transfer apart from the software fee.
The fee covers only the packaged software. AWS bills EC2 compute, EBS storage, and data transfer separately. Support from the upstream project is not included. You provide your own API key, which the instance generates on first boot, at no extra charge.

Usage instructions
