See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance you choose to run this hardened RHEL 8.8 image. There are no tiers or feature packages. Instead, each row maps to a specific AWS instance type, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-memory families. Your cost scales with instance size. Smaller sizes like nano and micro bill at lower hourly rates. Larger sizes, including xlarge, metal, and multi-terabyte options, bill more per hour. You select the instance that fits your workload, and the software charge applies on top of standard AWS infrastructure fees.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for each instance type actually cover?
The hourly rate covers the hardened RHEL 8.8 software license for the instance type you run. It includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols configured by the vendor. This software charge is separate from the standard AWS infrastructure fee for the instance itself.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running hours only. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from this software license charge.
How do I switch to a different instance type and what happens to my rate?
You launch the image on whichever instance type fits your workload. If you move to a different size, the hourly software rate changes to match that instance type's row. There is no upgrade step tied to users or tiers; the rate follows the instance you run.
