AWS End User Computing (EUC)

Cloud-native virtual desktops, secure web browsers, and application streaming

AWS End User Computing services include virtual desktops and application streaming services that workers need to get their job done. With these services, workers can be productive from any supported device, including Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Client, while improving IT agility and organizational security. You can scale up or scale down resources on demand, providing your teams with the resources they need, all without deploying and managing infrastructure.

Increase security

At AWS everything we do starts with security, and our AWS End User Computing services are built on the AWS Cloud. Built to meet the requirements of the most security-conscious organizations, our Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) services are deployed within an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) to provide secure connections within the AWS network without going through the public internet. No user data is stored on the local device. This helps improve the security of user data and reduces your overall risk surface area.

Increase agility

Being ready to change where and how your workforce gets the job done is more important than ever. These services are fully managed, so you can scale up and down in minutes as your needs change. AWS End User Computing services run in AWS Regions and AWS Availability Zones around the globe, so your end users can get the job done anywhere, with a rich and reliable user experience.

Increase reliability

End users can only be productive when they can access their applications. AWS End User Computing services are built on the AWS Cloud and our global network of Regions and Availability Zones, and run on Amazon EC2 instances with built-in auto scale load balancing. We take on the undifferentiated work of keeping infrastructure up and running and deliver a 99.9% uptime SLA.

Optimize cost

AWS End User Computing services help you eliminate infrastructure and management costs for the underlying virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). You can add and remove users on-demand, and pay only for what you use, when you use it. You no longer need to overbuy hardware and licenses for peak user capacity. AWS even offers low-cost devices to further reduce the cost of virtual desktop solutions.

Use cases

Knowledge workers

Knowledge workers often require fully persistent virtual desktop environments with access to Microsoft productivity applications. Beginning August 1, 2023, bring your own Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise license to run on WorkSpaces services.

Remote workforce

Organizations need options that allow employees to work from any location while remaining secure and productive. AWS End User Computing services help companies onboard new employees remotely and gain access to their desktops and applications from anywhere, while helping to increase security by keeping sensitive corporate data off local devices. AWS End User Computing services support workforce continuity through a set of solutions built on AWS that quickly, securely, and cost-effectively facilitate remote work.

Contact center agents

Historically, contact center agents were required to be physically in the contact center office tethered to a phone at their desk, but today our customers are using Amazon WorkSpaces and Amazon AppStream 2.0 to enable their virtual agents to access virtual desktops and streamed apps. With WorkSpaces, AppStream 2.0, and WorkSpaces Thin Client, agents get reliable access to the applications they need no matter where they work, and we help improve security by ensuring sensitive corporate information is never at rest on the contact center agent’s device.

Online trials, demos, training

With AWS End User Computing services, you can provide software trials on demand with no local installs or special hardware required. You can enable your sales team to deliver sales demos for your software from any device. Similarly, you can deliver training and certification workshops for your software with no physical lab or class room.

Contingent workforce

Many organizations are turning to contingent workers such as contractors and temporary staff to increase agility, save money, and capitalize on opportunities to grow. AWS EUC services enable organizations to onboard and support this workforce without the burden of buying, shipping, and managing additional devices. When contingent contracts are over, it is just as easy to scale back. Additionally, with AWS End User Computing services, you can improve security by ensuring sensitive corporate information is never at rest on the contingent worker's device.

Remote students and labs

Amazon WorkSpaces provides all-inclusive, fully persistent virtual desktop that students can use throughout their education experience, while Amazon AppStream 2.0 is optimized for streaming apps required for each class. You can easily build the learning environment your students need and ensure students have what they need for your class from day one.

We save millions of dollars for every subsidiary we onboard, because Amazon WorkSpaces can be deployed in many different regions and the solution circumvents the need for physical logistics like shipping hardware and the buildout of network connections.”
