Anteraja Delivers a Five-Fold Growth in Indonesia on AWS

2021

Headquartered in Jakarta, Anteraja is a logistics startup specializing in last-mile delivery. It delivers around 1 million parcels a day with an 8-hour delivery guarantee, serving business and retail customers with three main services – regular (1-2 days), next-day, and same-day deliveries.

The company has experienced rapid growth since its official launch in March 2019. To build operational efficiency as a young startup, Anteraja engaged Amazon Web Services (AWS) in December 2018 to provide a cloud-based infrastructure to support its business operations.

Turning to the Cloud to Jumpstart Operations

In its early stages, lean resources in operations and in technology limited Anteraja’s capabilities. "We had only two weeks to prepare before going live. Using a traditional approach, which involves installing 500 servers, would have been impossible. Choosing the servers and data center, and setting up the server racks would be too time-consuming. However, with help from AWS, we succeeded in meeting the deadline," said Hari Christian, IT cloud architect and infrastructure manager, Anteraja.

As part of digitalizing its operations, Anteraja integrated its key application, Satrias, to the AWS Cloud. This app provides visibility on parcel receipt and delivery, including item management at staging stores and warehouses, for its 20,000 couriers.

To support its core operations, Anteraja utilizes Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) as its secure cloud compute platform. The company relies on Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) to scale its database compute and storage resources, with Amazon Elasticache for in-memory caching to optimize data access.

Minimizing infrastructure management is a crucial consideration for Anteraja. The company uses serverless services such as Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) to automatically configure and scale shared files and Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) as its message notification service to its couriers and customers. Anteraja deploys the serverless Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for highly scalable data storage.

Growing as a Trusted Technology-Driven Logistics Company

The successful digitalization of Anteraja's operations with AWS has made tasks such as troubleshooting and enhancement increasingly efficient, allowing its IT team to focus on new product and feature development and experimentation. An example is BisnisAja, an application to trace delivery and manage shipment processes, launched at the end of 2020 after 4 months of development, test and production.

The company can now scale its operations infrastructure from managing 10,000 orders a day to 1 million a day with just a few clicks. Anteraja has also expanded beyond Jakarta to 34 provinces across Indonesia. Overall, the company has seen a 500 percent business growth overall across its services segments.

Anteraja is looking to AWS to help it become one of Indonesia's leading logistics companies, with a goal of handling an average of 2 million orders a day in 2022. "AWS is essential to us and very supportive of our efforts to achieve these targets. They are providing consultancy, training, technical confirmation, and credits when we want to experiment or develop new features," says Hari.

The company’s wants to be a trusted and socially responsible logistics enterprise in Indonesia. Hari explains that Anteraja’s philosophy is akin to a strong tree that grows strong branches, stems, and twigs. “All our couriers are full-time salaried employees of Anteraja, and we seek to protect all parties. Our principle is to do more beyond just profit, and make our employees prosperous,” Hari adds.
