Each family offers different amounts of GPU, CPU, and memory, so hourly cost rises as you move to larger sizes. You select an instance to match your channel count and playout workload. There is no upfront commitment; you are billed only for the hours you run.

What do the GPU-backed instance hours cover, and why does this software need GPU instances?
You are billed per hour for the running EC2 instance. The GPU handles HEVC encoding and real-time video rendering for playout, graphics, recording, and streaming. Larger instances provide more GPU, CPU, and memory, letting you run more playout channels on one machine.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges apply per hour only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing software fees. Underlying AWS storage for the instance may still incur separate charges. This matches cloud deployment, where resources can be decommissioned when not needed and stop consuming billing.
How do I choose between the g4dn, g5, and g6 instance families?
Each family offers different GPU, CPU, and memory levels, and hourly cost rises with size. Pick a family and size to match your channel count and playout workload. Higher channel counts and formats like UHD or 8K call for larger instances within a family.

Usage instructions
Internet access is required by the instance on first launch to obtain the required software license and again at least every 43 days to renew the license.
All applications installed on the AMI can be accessed via the Microsoft Remote Desktop Tool.
