This Amazon Machine Image (AMI) provides a preconfigured Selenium WebDriver environment on Ubuntu with a graphical user interface (GUI). It includes sample code for executing Selenium scripts on preinstalled Chrome, Firefox, and Edge using Python, Node.js, and Java. Access the GUI via RDP or VNC.
Deploy a Preinstalled Selenium WebDriver to Automate Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge
Running Selenium WebDriver on an EC2 instance is the easiest way to get started with Selenium in the cloud. This AMI offers a reliable, ready-to-use environment for test automation, web scraping, routine web task automation, and application monitoring.
Easily connect to the virtual desktop using RDP or VNC. Use the EC2 instance's public IP as the hostname and the instance ID as the initial password for both RDP and VNC. Log in with the username "ubuntu".
For seamless development and execution of Selenium scripts, the virtual machine comes with Visual Studio Code preinstalled. You can edit scripts directly in VS Code or transfer your files remotely using tools like WinSCP.
This AMI is designed to be minimal, containing only the necessary installations required to run Selenium WebDriver on a Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Key Features:
Ubuntu-based with a lightweight Xfce GUI for smooth performance.
Connect via RDP or VNC to interact with the GUI remotely.
Self-configures at launch: Use the EC2 instance ID as the initial password for RDP/VNC.
One-click deployment of Ubuntu with a graphical user interface (GUI) to run Selenium scripts in both headless and non-headless modes. It comes preconfigured with Chrome (+ ChromeDriver), Firefox (+ GeckoDriver), and Edge (+ EdgeDriver), allowing you to automate tests across all major browsers.
Easily access the Xfce desktop environment via RDP or VNC. Get started instantly with preinstalled Visual Studio Code, sample Selenium scripts, and language bindings for Python, Node.js, and Java.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Try this product free for 7 days according to the free trial terms set by the vendor. Usage-based pricing is in effect for usage beyond the free trial terms. Your free trial gets automatically converted to a paid subscription when the trial ends, but may be canceled any time before that.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 virtual machine. There is no upfront commitment or fixed term; charges accrue only while an instance runs. The many dimensions listed are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type and size, from small general-purpose machines to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-focused instances. Your cost scales with the instance size you choose, since larger instances carry more memory and CPU. Pick the instance type that fits your workload and pay that hourly rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover in this pricing?
Each hourly rate covers one running Amazon EC2 instance of the type you select. The software runs on a virtual machine you launch and connect to via RDP, VNC, or SSH. You are billed per hour for the software while that single instance runs.
Am I charged the hourly rate when my instance is stopped or after I cancel?
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A stopped instance stops the software billing, though underlying AWS storage fees may still apply. To end charges entirely, cancel the subscription in the AWS Marketplace Console and terminate the instance.
Which instance size should I pick, and how does that affect my hourly cost?
Pick the instance type that fits your workload. Larger sizes carry more memory and CPU, so their hourly rate is higher. The vendor recommends at least 4 GB of memory to run the GUI desktop smoothly. A recommended instance type is pre-selected at launch.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Fixed a critical out-of-bounds write vulnerability (CVE-2026-32746) in the telnetd LINEMODE SLC suboption handler by adding buffer size validation.
Computer Name: Public IPv4 address of your EC2 instance (e.g., 35.173.131.168)
Password: Instance ID of your EC2 instance (e.g., i-0ed22c98429479e1c)
Connect with RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) to run the sample code:
Launch your RDP client software on your local machine.
Connect using the public IP address of your instance, on port 3389.
When prompted, enter the username (ubuntu) and the password (your Instance ID). When connecting with Windows Remote Desktop Connection, go to "More Options" and select "Allow me to save credentials." This is the only way the app will prompt you to enter a password.

Select and open the appropriate file and execute the script by clicking Run.
Connect with VNC (Virtual Network Computing) to run the sample code::
Launch your VNC client on your local machine.
Connect using the public IP address of your instance, on port 5901.
When prompted, enter the password (your Instance ID).
Open Visual Studio Code from the Applications panel.
Select and open the appropriate file and execute the script by clicking Run.
We keep software installations to a minimum, and no sensitive data is stored on the virtual machine instance. If you encounter any issues or have additional questions, please refer to our documentation or reach out to our support team.
