Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type, so the price scales with the size and family of hardware you pick. Smaller instances like t3.xlarge cost less per hour, while metal and high-memory types like the u-series or x2iedn cost more. Your total depends on which instance you run and how many hours it stays on. The vendor recommends t3.xlarge or larger, with a minimum of 2 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, and 500 GB disk for acceptable performance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what else do I pay for?
Each hourly unit covers the software licence for one running EC2 instance of the type you select. The rate meters running time. You also pay separate AWS charges for compute, and for storage such as the recommended 500 GB gp3 disk, which are billed by AWS independently.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running time, so a stopped instance stops accruing the hourly charge. Note that the database and application services do not restart automatically after a reboot; you must start them manually. AWS storage fees for your disk can still apply while the instance is stopped.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch to a bigger instance type?
Yes. Each dimension is tied to one specific EC2 instance type, so moving to a different type applies that type's hourly rate. The vendor recommends t3.xlarge or larger, with a minimum of 2 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, and 500 GB disk for acceptable performance.
