You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, and your rate depends on the instance size you pick. Options span several instance families: general purpose (m, t), compute optimized (c), memory optimized (r), and storage optimized (i). Within each family, sizes range from nano and micro up to 2xlarge. Larger sizes give more CPU and memory and cost more per hour. All dimensions run the same bug tracking appliance; only the underlying hardware differs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for this appliance?
You pay for each hour the chosen EC2 instance runs the appliance. Billing meters wall-clock running time of that instance. Each instance type maps to a set amount of CPU and memory. The hourly software rate applies alongside the standard AWS charges for the instance itself.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the instance is stopped?
The software rate applies while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill you for attached storage on a stopped instance, but that is separate from this appliance's per-hour software rate.
How do I move to a different instance size if my needs change?
You select the instance type at launch, and the hourly rate follows that choice. To change size, you deploy or resize to another instance type; the rate then matches the new dimension. The vendor's backup and migration tool can help move your data between servers.
