You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you launch. The eleven options map to different AWS instance types, so pricing scales with the compute resources you choose. The t2 sizes (t2.micro, t2.small, t2.medium, t2.large) offer burstable general-purpose capacity. The m3 and m4 sizes (m3.medium, m4.large, m4.xlarge, m4.2xlarge) provide balanced compute and memory. The c4 sizes (c4.large, c4.xlarge, c4.2xlarge) are compute-focused. Larger instances cost more per hour. You are billed only for the hours the instance runs. Every option ships the same pre-packaged WordPress stack.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What software comes pre-installed on each hourly instance?
Every instance ships the same WordPress stack with its dependent components pre-packaged, so you can build your site right away. The stack is installed in standard Windows directories on Windows Server 2016. You connect using an RDP client after launch.
Am I charged for the software when the instance is stopped?
Hourly software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply to a stopped instance separate from the software licence, which meters running hours only.
How do I choose between the t2, m3/m4, and c4 instance sizes?
The t2 sizes give burstable general-purpose capacity for lighter traffic. The m3 and m4 sizes balance compute and memory for steady loads. The c4 sizes focus on compute for processing-heavy sites. You pay the hourly rate tied to the size you launch.
