Data governance has improved access to trusted metadata but still needs better UI and APIs
What is our primary use case?
Collibra Platform is used for data governance, bridging business and technical data. I used Collibra Platform to import metadata from GCP projects by utilizing Collibra import APIs.
Importing metadata from GCP projects helps to make data accessible for everyone at the company so that they can use this data because they have information about metadata.
What is most valuable?
Collibra Platform offers features such as Collibra lineage, Collibra sampling, and bridging business objects and technical data, which really stand out to me.
Collibra lineage helps us to understand where the data comes from and is used to understand the lineage of the data. Sampling also helps to get an idea of the data.
Collibra Platform has positively impacted my organization by increasing data usage and helping teams build data products. Faster access and easy accessibility contributed to how data usage increased.
What needs improvement?
The UI of Collibra Platform can be improved, as can some APIs such as the import API.
Improving the UI and documentation would bring it closer to a perfect score for me, making it more accessible.

Integrated data cataloging and AI governance have streamlined workflows and reduced risk
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Collibra Platform is data cataloging as well as AI governance.
In my day-to-day work, I connect with data sources such as Snowflake and a variety of data sources like Hive , and then use the metadata to define the data dictionary, while also using Collibra Platform to define the business glossary and tie it up with the metadata so that any user logged in can understand what the data describes. For AI governance, I have a lifecycle where the user submits a workflow to get approved for their AI use case, and then I use that workflow to analyze the use case and the associated data, completing a data quality check using Great Expectations before approving the use case if there is no risk associated with the data. I use Collibra Platform for both AI governance and data catalog.
What is most valuable?
Unique to my organization is the data cataloging part and Edge; I use Edge of Collibra Platform to connect to different inbuilt data sources.
The best features Collibra Platform offers include data cataloging and a variety of APIs, allowing me to use Python and REST API to export or import data within Collibra Platform, and there is a lot of documentation available, along with fantastic support from Collibra Platform which helps whenever I encounter issues.
The documentation is clear and helpful, and it is easy to integrate with other tools using Collibra Platform's APIs. For example, I did an integration with Databricks to Collibra Platform to get all the assets from Collibra Platform, and it was very easy.
It is easy to define the business glossary in bulk with Collibra Platform, as I use Excel export to bulk create business glossaries, making it easy to tag, and the workflow capabilities are excellent, getting assigned to users when the workflow starts and making it easy to manage and track workflows from end to end.
Collibra Platform has positively impacted my organization by removing silos in AI governance, as prior to introducing Collibra Platform's workflow, processes were messy and done in silos; after introducing Collibra Platform, the process is thorough and significantly reduces my organization's risk.
What needs improvement?
Collibra Platform could be improved regarding data quality, as the rules cannot be defined as easily as in other tools.
The user interface is very good and convenient, with no additional improvements needed.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Collibra Platform for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Collibra Platform is stable in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Collibra Platform is good.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support is excellent from Collibra Platform.
How was the initial setup?
Onboarding new users to Collibra Platform is easy; even non-technical users can navigate it effectively, as the documentation is sufficient, and users can also attend training sessions through the university for additional support.
What other advice do I have?
Data lineage is easy to track and understand with Collibra Platform because it establishes complex relationships between each hop using an automated tool called Lineage Harvester, which connects with the database and establishes lineage between hops.
Collibra Platform uses SSO for login and manages access control, providing full access to admins while restricting access for data stewards, data quality analysts, data analysts, and technical stewards, ensuring that everyone has only the required access and there are granular permissions available.
Collibra Platform manages metadata effectively, making it easy to update, search, and maintain metadata across my data sources.
Collibra Platform supports collaboration between different teams or departments through workflows that assign tasks to specific teams or individuals, with automatic reminders sent from Collibra Platform until tasks are completed.
My advice for others looking into using Collibra Platform is that it is excellent for those needing AI governance, data cataloging, and automated data lineage—definitely consider it. I rate this product a ten out of ten.
Data governance has become standardized and delivers automated approvals for critical assets
What is our primary use case?
Collibra Platform is used for data cataloging, business glossary, data lineage, DQ integration, workflow automation, custom workflow automation, policy and governance management, role-based access, and stewardship workflows.
My day-to-day use of Collibra Platform involves working on the glossary, working on the lineage, developing custom workflows according to requirements, and aligning the whole process according to business needs.
My day-to-day use cases include asset approval workflows, triggering workflows for business users for bulk approval of their assets, change management, and the associated approval processes. Connectivity and metadata ingestion are also part of my day-to-day work.
What is most valuable?
Collibra Platform's best features are data cataloging, the glossary view, and the lineage part from both the data asset side as well as the business asset side. Collibra Platform's data quality integration is now bug-free, and I am currently using it to bring in DQ scores from the data quality side to the DIC, which is fully integrated and working well.
Automated workflows are an interesting part of Collibra Platform, providing flexibility, a very good user experience, and a nice dashboard to present. Collibra Platform's automated workflows have helped my team with a wide variety of integrations available out-of-the-box, including Snowflake , Power BI, Informatica, and other JDBC databases.
As a result of using Collibra Platform, I have access to many metrics regarding company internal policies, including the golden rules, their expiry, and everything which provides a better view of which assets are policy compliant. This is measurable and helps me understand which policies govern which data assets, their expected expiry dates, and reapproval needs. The quality of data, critical data elements, and personal identifiable information are also classified for improving the accuracy of data.
Collibra Platform has achieved improved data discoverability and governance standardization with reduced manual efforts and better compliance visibility. Collibra Platform delivers value that is more operational and strategic rather than immediate cost savings, with faster data discovery and reduced analyst effort, as well as better audit and compliance readiness.
What needs improvement?
Some improvements needed for Collibra Platform are minor fixes, as the major ones have already been addressed. I encounter some hidden out-of-the-box domains that are not easily configurable. Giving access to users would be helpful, and introducing more customization options for integration and other selections would also be beneficial. Collibra Platform is currently working on technical lineage, but I have not seen the latest updates.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for around three years and nine months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Collibra Platform is pretty much stable in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Collibra Platform is highly scalable, with people using it day by day and different business units creating their own views to utilize the platform. The permission structure that has been introduced allows setting up domain permissions for the various business units in my organization.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support for Collibra Platform is slightly different. For premium support, if I pay extra, they provide a very good and quick response. For normal users, the turnaround time is around 24 hours, which is also good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I started with Collibra Platform from the initial implementation and did not previously use a different solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I believe the pricing, setup cost, and licensing were discussed by my CEO with Collibra support, and we did not openly discuss it among ourselves.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other options before choosing Collibra Platform as I directly joined the company with experience in Collibra and began working with this platform for data governance.
What other advice do I have?
Automated workflows are beneficial because when metadata ingestion takes place, I need approvals to be triggered automatically. If there is a refresh in a particular schema, it should go through the approval process for the candidate one. If any asset goes missing from the source, those should be obsoleted. This is how automated workflows have helped my team manage a large amount of data and metadata.
My advice for others looking into using Collibra Platform is to adopt the cloud setup for both the DQ and DIC instead of just the DIC. Using both on your own premises keeps everything under your organization's control, including the database and security.
I have covered everything I wanted to say regarding Collibra Platform, and I would rate this review as a 9 out of 10.
Data governance platform has organized our catalog and has improved end-to-end traceability
What is our primary use case?
I work as a data consultant for IBM Bluetab company, and my role involves data analysis, data engineering, and conveying messages in terms of research and reports.
I have been using Collibra Platform for over two years, and I find the platform to be very unique in terms of data governance, as it is very aligned to most of my needs.
I use Collibra Platform primarily for searching domains and all information from my data catalog. Currently, we are in the process of migrating databases from Oracle to Azure . I type mostly definitions, check who has ownership of a field or domain, and search for categories when I need to find similarities between one data warehouse and another type of database. I use the artificial intelligence tool set to receive hints on words and make traceability of where certain data could be located. I use most of those cases.
A specific example of how I used Collibra Platform recently involves traceability needs. The platform allows me to input information regarding where a certain field within a table begins, and then I need to understand what the equivalent is in another database. I typically search for the name I already have in mind, from which I can see details about ownership, the tables it is linking in that position, and check definitions. I get everything summarized in tables and can also see more details about the parent table and relative tables, so I could benefit from the diagrams they offer.
I have additional insights about how I use Collibra Platform in my work. For example, when I know the term but specifically need to get more insights about what could be the next definition deriving from this term, it would be great if I could get suggestions from the formation of two terms so I would not need to search in other places.
What is most valuable?
The best features Collibra Platform offers, in my opinion, include the ability to search deeply. If I have a term and I select it, I can see all the data governance utilities in terms of ownership, definition, and whether this data is considered to be private or public within my organization, as well as all the key information. For reports, if I have the domain for certain data and think it may be incomplete, I can upload a spreadsheet and update it within the platform. This information is very useful to my work.
Out of those features, I find myself using the feature of converting my domains into smaller views and getting more insights about the origin of a certain field within a table the most. It is having a broad view but also having a connection with a specific view at the same time, which helps me have a smoother traceability process.
Collibra Platform has impacted my organization positively. The main benefit is that we now have our best catalog organizer. Since we moved from one type of database that was mostly relational, we are now able to see other types of structures, and we can actually use spreadsheets, tables, and other types of information that could be generated from them.
What needs improvement?
The AI hints could be something that would be very useful. If I have to think about something else, I see potential in working with other external platforms like Databricks . Inside of any platform, I could actually get to the definition, for example, inside of Databricks , or if I am inside of Collibra Platform, I could get snippets of the code, something related to this interdisciplinary work. I could also get a plugin version with other types of platforms.
Collibra Platform could be improved, particularly the AI platform, which at the end of the day needs to be very tailored and very specific to my cases.
User integrations could be very useful to see how the work could also be linked to other platforms, so I would really like to see that.
For how long have I used the solution?
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Collibra Platform a nine out of ten so far, as it has been really useful for my case.
I chose a nine out of ten because it is not fully integrated with other platforms at the moment. I think that is what needs to be improved.
My advice to others looking into using Collibra Platform is that they can start ahead with the platform. It is very intuitive and has everything that you need regarding data governance, especially if you want to aim for traceability purposes. I give Collibra Platform an overall rating of nine out of ten.
Governance workflows have clarified data ownership and improve lineage-driven decision making
What is our primary use case?
I have used Collibra Platform for metadata management, which is a data intelligence platform. I have also used Collibra DQ platform for checking data quality purposes as part of data governance.
I built metadata management by identifying data owners and data stewardship, including producers and consumers, and created workflows for approvals. I also established data lineage to understand the source, target, and how producers and consumers are linked.
Using Collibra Platform for data lineage and workflow approvals has impacted my daily work by allowing me to understand where data comes from and what systems are involved, how data is persisted until it reaches the target, and who is the right person to make any changes using workflow approvals to identify producers and consumers and their linkage.
Additional use cases with Collibra Platform would include monitoring data quality rules and scorecards, and assigning remediation tasks whenever there is a failure or the score decreases.
What is most valuable?
The best features of Collibra Platform, in my opinion, are that it is very user-friendly and integrated with basic SQL. Collibra Platform also has Collibra AI within the platform to help resolve issues very easily.
Collibra AI has helped me by identifying approved datasets and models. It also helps track data models with Collibra Platform.
Collibra Platform has positively impacted my organization through additional features including Critical Data Elements governance, automatic workflow management, and stewardship. Collibra Platform also helps with business glossary and audit management.
After using Collibra Platform, my organization was able to identify which datasets are approved. Business definitions became very clear, and it also helped establish clear data ownership.
What needs improvement?
Collibra Platform can be improved in simpler relationship management because some people feel Collibra Platform is complex for non-business users.
The platform could also improve easy navigation with Collibra Platform. Asset management and workflows in Collibra Platform could also be simplified.
I chose a rating of eight out of ten for Collibra Platform because there are some areas for improvement such as performance and user-friendly navigation.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Collibra Platform for around two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Collibra Platform is very stable and has delivered better results.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Due to better data lineage, troubleshooting time has reduced, so Collibra Platform is definitely scalable. When used with the cloud like AWS , it provides more features and benefits for analytics.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support for Collibra Platform is very strong. Whenever there was an issue with the application, it was very easy to log a ticket and the issue was resolved on time.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have not used a different solution before Collibra Platform. The only different solution was an in-house platform of the organization. The reason for migrating to Collibra Platform was for the main features I explained.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing for Collibra Platform is that since it is on-premises, pricing, setup, and everything is straightforward. I think that once it is moved to AWS , licensing and cost will be better.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment from using Collibra Platform on the data governance and metadata perspective as it has saved considerable time, especially when creating reports and it is easy to manage by just the known data stewards. It has saved money, time, and resources.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I am not sure about other solutions. Collibra Platform was chosen as the only option.
What other advice do I have?
The advice I would give to others looking into using Collibra Platform is that they first have to understand data governance concepts very well, including metadata management and how data intelligence and data cataloging work. Then exploring the platform will be really helpful.
Collibra Platform is a wonderful platform that has helped with metadata ingestion in real projects. It also helps with integration with fantastic tools like Snowflake and Tableau. Collibra Platform has many business glossaries, workflow management, asset management, relationships, and improved data lineage have also helped reduce troubleshooting. There have been many improvements after we started using Collibra Platform when compared to the in-house tool. I would rate this platform an eight out of ten.
