This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use GitLab Community Edition 19.5.1 server. Host your Git repositories, run CI/CD pipelines and track issues on your own server, with a CI runner already registered and unique passwords for every instance.
GitLab Community Edition is the open source edition of GitLab, a complete platform for software teams. It combines Git repository hosting, merge requests and code review, issue tracking, wikis and built-in CI/CD pipelines in one web application. This image gives development teams their own GitLab server in minutes, with the runner already connected, so the first pipeline runs without any extra setup.
What is included: GitLab CE 19.5.1 (the official omnibus package with its bundled nginx, PostgreSQL and Redis) on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, GitLab Runner 19.5.1 with the Docker executor, Docker CE 29.9 and Webmin 2.670 for server administration. The GitLab address follows the instance's public IP at every boot, so links and clone URLs stay correct. Git over SSH works on port 22. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own GitLab root and Webmin passwords and generates new GitLab secrets, CI signing keys and runner token. Public sign-up is turned off, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. GitLab Community Edition is open source software licensed under the MIT licence. GitLab is a trademark of GitLab Inc. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud and contains no paid-edition features.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open its public IP in your browser and sign in as root. GitLab CE, a registered CI/CD runner with Docker and Webmin are already installed and configured.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own root and Webmin passwords and generates its own GitLab secrets and keys on first boot, public sign-up is off, and SSH is key-only.
Code, review and ship in one place: private Git repositories, merge requests, issues, wikis and CI/CD pipelines that start as soon as you push a .gitlab-ci.yml file.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay an hourly software charge for this prebuilt machine image, billed by AWS alongside your own EC2 compute costs. The many dimensions listed are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type you can run the image on, grouped by family such as compute (c), memory (r), general purpose (m), storage (d, i), and GPU (g, p). Hourly cost scales with the size and capability of the instance you choose. Larger instances within a family cost more per hour. A short free trial applies before charges begin.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to, and what spec do I need to run this image?
Each hourly unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. The image needs at least 8 GiB of memory, so choose t3a.xlarge or a larger instance for bigger teams. The software charge is the same regardless of instance type; you also pay your own EC2 costs.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when the instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage charges for the attached 40 GiB gp3 root volume, billed separately by AWS. The software fee applies only while the instance runs.
Does the hourly software charge change if I pick a larger instance type?
The seller lists one flat hourly software charge for this image. Your total hourly cost combines that software charge with the EC2 cost of the instance type you select, billed by AWS. Larger instances raise your EC2 cost, not the software charge. Both appear on your AWS bill.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, wait for the instance health checks to pass, then allow about 15 minutes for GitLab to finish its first-time setup. Enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser. You will then see the GitLab sign-in page, enter root as Username and your instance ID as password. Until the setup finishes the page may show 502 and the password will not work yet; wait and refresh. You can access the Webmin page at port 8000, so your URL will be http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and use admin as username and your instance ID as password. You can also access your instance via SSH using the username ubuntu and your Amazon private key.
A CI/CD runner is already registered, so pipelines start as soon as you commit a .gitlab-ci.yml file to a project. To clone over SSH, add your public key under your user settings, SSH Keys, then use git@<instance-public-ip>:<group>/<project>.git.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH and Git over SSH), 80 (GitLab) and 8000 (Webmin). For security, allow port 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Allow about 15 minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password.
Change your passwords after the first sign-in: connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_gitlab.sh for GitLab root or pass_webmin.sh for Webmin, from the same folder. To check the server, run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/gitlab_status.sh.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS. GitLab needs at least 8 GiB of memory; choose t3a.xlarge or larger for bigger teams or busy pipelines.
