One hour covers the software running on one EC2 instance of that type. The rate reflects the compute, memory, and storage the instance provides. Each instance size is billed separately per running hour. AWS infrastructure charges for the instance apply on top of this software rate.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue hourly software fees. You may still pay AWS for attached storage on stopped instances, but the software licence meters running time only.
You can request help through the vendor's support form. Include your AWS account ID, product name, AMI ID, and a description of the issue. This support relates to the deployed image and is separate from your hourly instance charges.

To connect to your instance:
- SSH to the instance using the instance's public IP and log in as the 'ubuntu' user, using the key specified when you launched the instance.
- Once logged in, use the command sudo su - to switch to the root user and get a root prompt.
