Excellent Online Portal Experience for Customers
Virtual tours have transformed how we present properties and save time on client visits
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Matterport is the property sales use case where we scan a show unit, villa, or apartment with the Matterport camera, creating a virtual tour which is then hosted on a webpage and shown to clients or potential buyers. This process helps us sell the actual unit to potential buyers.
When I open Matterport, the first thing I do is import the scanned apartments and spaces, then maintain the spaces. If a unit is not available, I archive it or update that some spaces are not available, determining which tours to archive or provide a link to other teams. We have a large organization with different front-end applications, such as a mobile application for clients and websites, ensuring that all must have the Matterport feature. We manage a hierarchy of projects, with multiple tours utilized and placed on the website.
What is most valuable?
The best features of Matterport for me include the dollhouse view, which provides a great overview when loading the project, and the measurement tool, which allows me to measure the distance between two points. This feature helps considerably, giving people a clear understanding of the actual sizes and measurements inside the units, and we have received great feedback regarding that.
While Matterport is a component of our overall user journey, its impact includes time savings, fewer onsite visits, and smoother client communication. I cannot say that the benefits are solely due to Matterport, as we could have realized similar benefits with any comparable tool, but it plays an important role in enhancing our immersive experience applications.
What needs improvement?
I wish Matterport had a mini map feature to show where we are within the property floor plan. While I know there are third-party tools that could be integrated, having this feature natively in Matterport would be helpful.
While adding a mini map feature would not create a huge difference in workflow, it would help users better understand the space. Overall, the workflow would likely remain the same, just with an additional feature.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been familiar with Matterport for around three and a half years, using it on and off.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I do not have any major friction points or frustrations with Matterport; everything looks great.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using Matterport, I tried 3D Vista , another tool designed for creating 3D tours, although it can also be used for physical spaces.
What about the implementation team?
The scope of my work with Matterport is primarily done by myself, concerning account administration, enabling tours, and archiving them, with the help of team members and vendors who assist in physically scanning the spaces. My main job is to review the scanned data, ensuring the camera height is accurate and that the rendered scan data is of high quality. The admin part and review are completely managed by me, though we also have team members who help with scanning the actual spaces.
What was our ROI?
Using Matterport does require some training, especially when onboarding new team members or expanding teams. We provide hands-on training, giving them an understanding of how Matterport works, including the actual dashboard and portal, which helps convey how our daily working days would be for new joiners, making it a fast transition process to understand more about Matterport.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I do not remember other tools I considered alongside Matterport because it was a clear choice due to its large user base and the recommendations we received online indicating that it is the best tool.
What other advice do I have?
Matterport is just a small part of our overall workflow, as we primarily use Unreal Engine for more real-time rendering and comprehensive applications that incorporate full 3D virtual tours with both interior and exterior elements integrated with inventory. Matterport primarily helps showcase the interiors, while our custom tool allows users to view exteriors, amenities, and inventory, making it a part of the larger user journey.
Most users in our company consume the links for pitching to clients, creating more end users. Our properties are often off-plan, with other virtual tour tools used as well, but Matterport is handy when we have a physical property available and ready to scan. This feature is particularly powerful and beneficial to us, limited to the physically built tours that we possess.
As soon as we receive the scan data in Matterport portal, we usually conduct proper reviews within one or two days and perform link extraction to put it on the front-end websites or applications. This process is immediate once the scan data appears.
I would suggest anyone considering Matterport for physical properties use it, as it is really smooth and fast. Having a professional team for scanning is crucial, as ensuring proper alignment with dimensions and angles is essential for further actions. The focus should be on the scanning part, confirming that personal teams are used for that. The dashboard and backend functions are pretty much smooth.
I have not worked with DataDome , Enable cove data protection, Oracle CX Sales , Freshsales , Sales Creatio , or Akamai Bot Manager recently, but I have used different tools.
I have used Matterport, which falls under the broader category of immersive technologies alongside Megaport , ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer , Nutanix Flow Network Security , Workspace ONE Intelligence , or similar in networking, infrastructure, or system management.
I would rate Matterport an eight overall.
