Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. The pricing scales with instance size because it is based on the number of vCPUs and metered by the second. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small shared instances up to large memory, compute, GPU, and bare-metal options. Larger instances carry more vCPUs, so their hourly rate is higher. You pick the dimension that matches the EC2 instance you launch. Costs appear on your existing AWS invoice, and AWS Savings Plans discounts may apply.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The rate combines the underlying EC2 instance charge with the Ubuntu Pro software fee. Ubuntu Pro adds security patches for infrastructure and hundreds of open source applications, FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified components, optional CIS hardening and DISA STIG profiles, plus Kernel Livepatch for updates without reboot.
The software fee meters running time by the second. A stopped instance stops accruing the Ubuntu Pro charge. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply from AWS, but the per-second software metering only counts time the instance runs.
Ubuntu Pro pricing scales with the instance's vCPU count. Larger instances have more vCPUs, so their hourly software fee is higher. A small shared instance carries a low rate, while large memory, GPU, or bare-metal instances carry more vCPUs and cost more per hour.

It's a classic and very popular Linux-based OS. It works and it's very resources efficient

It is outdated and has been supersed by newer versions of Ubuntu
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to host our backend services in Ubuntu 18. We take advantage of the fact it is free and has good support and community based open source projects.

The support of hardware drivers is still the same as the basic version.
Ubuntu works best for most of the devices but sometimes it fails to deliver drivers for some. I couldn't find anything new in Ubuntu Pro regarding that.

The LTS in Pro is providing 10 years of support which is actually cool. This thing can be compared to MacOSX as developers don't like to change or tweak with the OS regularly.

What do you like best about the product?
1. Open source, no tracking, no advertisements and it's free.
2. Its really not much resource intensive, you can run it on hardware from 2000s, with minimum specifications.
3. Powerful and functional for development.
4. Support for codecs like LDAC (can be installed) for better audio compared to Windows etc.
5. You wont miss windows or MacOs that much.

Even though support for codecs is present all media wont play smoothly by default, sometimes you would need to really test the things to make it actually work..
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reduces software costs as it is really cheap. Linux works for servers the best. Availability for specific development software is much better on Linux compared to Windows servers.
