AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing scales entirely by the EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and family, from small general-purpose types like t3.nano to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized types like u7in-32tb.224xlarge and p5.48xlarge. Larger or more specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. This software fee applies on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. Every dimension delivers the same FIPS-certified Ubuntu Pro 20.04 LTS with updates; the only variable is the underlying hardware you select and how many hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and is a virtual machine billed the same as a physical host?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the selected type, billed per hour. A virtual machine counts as one instance. Ubuntu Pro subscriptions cover the server, so a hypervisor host can run multiple VMs under one per-server charge in some setups. Check your instance configuration to confirm counting.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software fee meters running instance-hours only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the hourly Ubuntu Pro FIPS charge. You may still owe standard AWS charges, such as storage for attached volumes, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
What drives my total cost, and does the FIPS software fee replace AWS infrastructure charges?
Your bill combines two parts. The Ubuntu Pro FIPS software fee applies per instance-hour based on the instance type you pick. Separately, AWS charges for the underlying compute, storage, and network. Both appear together. The instance type you choose and hours run drive both amounts.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
