Centralized document workflows have transformed collaboration and reduced operational costs

    Reviewed on Mar 30, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Alfresco  is to solve complex enterprise problems for content service, record management, and process management. At Unilever, I have implemented Alfresco  Content Services to create a central repository for document management and document approval processes between different departments. I have also integrated Alfresco Content Services with various applications including portal, SAP, DocuSign , LDAP, and SSO , making it a unified ECM  system and promoting the concept of a paperless office.

    What is most valuable?

In my experience, the best features Alfresco offers include great cloud and on-premises integration for both on and off-site synchronization, document storage with metadata, document versioning, document workflow, check in and check out capabilities, REST API for integration, easy customization, and vibrant community support.

Out of all those features, I find myself using and relying most on document storage because it stores our documents very safely, allowing for easy retrieval and sharing, which promotes departmental collaboration.

Alfresco has positively impacted my organization by providing open source production with vibrant community support. It is cost-effective compared to many proprietary CMS solutions such as Microsoft SharePoint , with customizations being possible, enabling it to be utilized in various ways of integrating it with other ecosystems.

    What needs improvement?

Alfresco can be improved in terms of user interface, as it is not very intuitive. The user interface should be improved, along with reducing dependency on partner solutions for common use cases such as content capturing and imaging.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alfresco for the past eight years.

What other advice do I have?

Since adopting Alfresco, I can share a specific metric in that it has reduced costs because it is very cost-effective, with price plans being very affordable. We can say costs have been reduced from fifty to forty-five percent or forty percent.

Alfresco is a great content service tool that can easily be integrated with any application and leveraged as a backend CMS or DM system. I appreciate it because it is more cost-effective compared to other alternatives, thereby saving substantial costs. It is an open-source platform with vibrant community support, making it a very recommendable tool.

I would rate Alfresco nine out of ten. I chose nine out of ten because the biggest positive about Alfresco Content Services is its open-source nature, which opens up many possibilities for utilizing it in an existing ecosystem through integrations.

Streamlined document workflows have improved collaboration and supported compliant record management

    Reviewed on Mar 29, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I have implemented Alfresco  content service to solve complex enterprise problems for content service, record management, and process management. It is used across the whole organization for document management, retention, blogging, audit trails, and approval workflows. We have integrated Alfresco  with our homegrown database.

    What is most valuable?

Alfresco delivers an open, scalable, cloud-native content, process, and governance management suite. When it comes to document management, it is one of the best and top-notch solutions available. Alfresco helps us to quickly find and access information from anywhere on any device using web-based viewing tools. It is a very intelligent tool because it provides intelligent process management where integrated process and content service capabilities streamline content-centric processes and enable faster and more informed decision-making.

I love the basic workflows that are easy enough for casual users to set up and utilize. Cloud synchronization capability provides a great way to share documents with third parties and to use as a backup system for critical documents.

The best features Alfresco offers include the Alfresco mobile app, folder rules that are easy to set up, and the ability to make metadata assessment easier to automate. Easy customization and support from Alfresco are great advantages.

We have been able to automate most of the repetitive tasks using folder rules and metadata automation, saving a lot of time and cost. Through the Alfresco mobile app, it makes it easy for those on the road to access, approve, and share documents, promoting collaboration. Deal flow processes run much more efficiently. Compliance needs are easily met in a cost-effective manner.

    What needs improvement?

One of the main areas that should be improved is when users are members of 1,000 sites or more, certain features such as site dashlets do not work properly. Additionally, the mobile app does not have a site search feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alfresco for the past six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Alfresco is very stable with minimum downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has continued to handle my organization's growth, especially when it comes to content management.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support is very responsive and proactive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Moodle  and Tableau Desktop .

    What was our ROI?

Since using this tool, Alfresco Enterprise Content Management  has increased overall operational efficiency by at least 10%. Content management across channels was a huge challenge prior to implementing Alfresco in my organization. I have been pleased with the overall system performance of Alfresco Enterprise Content Management .

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price was very cost-effective and affordable regarding pricing, setup cost, and licensing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Alfresco, I evaluated other options including Drupal .

What other advice do I have?

Alfresco is well-suited for any size of organization with content management needs. I would rate this solution a 9 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Digitized customer records have transformed how my team stores, searches, and collaborates daily

    Reviewed on Mar 28, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Alfresco  is to manage all the documentation I digitize from our customers. With Alfresco , it is easy to store, sort, and then search for it.

A quick specific example of how I use Alfresco to manage and search for documentation is that being open source makes it very customizable, so I can adapt to my customers' demands that are very unique and we were not able to do with other ECM  solutions.

Alfresco fits into my workflow by working great for storing and managing a high volume of documents of any kind of file format. You can even preview commonly used file formats including PDF, docs, XLSX, and many more, and develop custom content transformers to auto-convert files that are uploaded into the ECM .

    What is most valuable?

In my opinion, the best features Alfresco offers include storing documentation, a full-text search engine, automating record lifecycle, creating rules for documents and folders, being highly customizable, and also providing an intuitive user interface. Alfresco also offers smooth integration.

Out of all those features, I find myself relying on the user interface the most day-to-day because it is very intuitive and user-friendly. It requires little training for basic functionality, making it easy to navigate and also understand. I also love the seamless integration with other applications.

The features of Alfresco provide integration with other tools that allows for smooth collaboration and content sharing across platforms, hence enhancing productivity and efficiency.

Alfresco has positively impacted my organization because it can handle a large number of documents without requiring significant server capacity. Also, it is a great tool because it is very easy to use and has an intuitive interface that makes it very easy to customize and also use for anyone. We have been able to save money by only needing to use one platform to serve our customers. The community version is free to use, hence saving a lot of money.

    What needs improvement?

Alfresco can be improved by enhancing the customization of the user interface.

I would also like to add that content transformation is absent.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alfresco for the past five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Alfresco is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Alfresco's scalability is very impressive. It has continued to grow with my organization and can handle a large volume of content.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Alfresco is very responsive and proactive.

    What was our ROI?

Since switching to Alfresco, my organization has saved a lot of thousands of dollars.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for others looking into using Alfresco is that it is a great tool. It is a great content management tool that is very cost-effective, easy to use, and has a very intuitive user-friendly interface. Also, it is very rich in collaboration, with simplified web design for people who are less tech-savvy. It is an excellent integration with both Office suite and OpenOffice, hence making it a great content management tool that I highly recommend to all.

I love Alfresco because it facilitates real-time updates to manage content throughout the website without any code drops. I give this product a rating of 9.

Collaborative document workflows have improved and employees access daily records efficiently

    Reviewed on Mar 16, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Alfresco  is that it allows us to upload our part prints, invoices, and engineering documents that our business uses every day. It is currently being used by all of our employees in several different departments throughout our organization. It mainly addresses the issue of collaboration.

Alfresco  makes it very easy for several people to work on projects together. I can provide a project scenario where multiple people work together using Alfresco for document management system-wide for sharing documents or working on different projects.

Alfresco is highly configurable and customizable, making it really interesting for our organizational needs.

    What is most valuable?

Some of the best features Alfresco offers include an intuitive user interface, collaboration, and scripting. Additionally, Alfresco is open source, which makes it very easy to find and fix problems if any arise and to extend its functionalities. The cost of licensing Alfresco is very low compared to other systems. When it comes to scripting, if there is something that Alfresco does not do natively, you can use their custom API to do almost anything that you want. The interface is very user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy for new users to understand and requiring little training for basic functionality.

Alfresco has positively impacted my organization by improving information flow to the shop floor, enabling electronic filing of our parts and drawings, and increasing employee efficiency. Although switching from a paper world to an electronic world can be painful for users, Alfresco is always welcomed by end users because of its flexibility. Alfresco becomes truly a tool that helps the user and not a constraint.

    What needs improvement?

Alfresco can be improved by adding some more APIs, although the existing APIs provide the required features very well. Alfresco needs to continuously introduce new functions provided by other competitive products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for the past four years and eleven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In my experience, Alfresco is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Alfresco's scalability is very good; it grows with organizational needs and handles all organizational requirements.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Alfresco is very proactive and responsive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before using Alfresco, I previously used a solution called Contentful .

    How was the initial setup?

I purchased Alfresco through the AWS Marketplace .

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment, as Alfresco increases employee efficiency and is very cost-effective.

The number of support calls for IT staff has reduced by a huge margin, thanks to Alfresco, which highlights the return on investments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing shows that the cost of licensing and support comes down significantly by using Alfresco compared to other alternatives.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Alfresco, I evaluated other options, specifically Microsoft SharePoint .

What other advice do I have?

I rate Alfresco as a nine out of ten.

The reason I rate it a nine is that the cost of licensing and the product support for content management has decreased.

My advice for others looking into using Alfresco is that since it is a newly developed content management system, it combines the best features and practices from existing systems, making it a top-notch and very cost-effective content management solution.

I did not find anything I should change for the future. I have given Alfresco an overall rating of nine.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Unified content management has transformed processes and promotes a secure paperless workplace

    Reviewed on Mar 13, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Alfresco  is that I implemented Alfresco  Content Services to solve complex enterprise problems for content service, record management, and process management. Using this tool, I implemented a central repository for document management and document approval processes between different departments. I have also integrated Alfresco Content Services with different applications including Portal, SAP, DocuSign , LDAP, SSO , and many more.

One specific example of how I use Alfresco is that it can be leveraged for document storage, metadata management of documents, and document searches based on content or metadata. It provides a lot of customization options, making it suitable for different scenarios.

Overall, the main intent of my use of Alfresco is to implement a unified ECM  system and promote the idea of a paperless office.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Alfresco offers are its robustness and compatibility with most of the tools in my organization, which is an added advantage. The cloud and on-premises integration is a great way for both on- and off-site synchronization. Document management promotes a paperless office, collaborative web content, and brings content and processes together, allowing for seamless collaboration.

Out of these features, I find myself relying on the ability to access content outside my work zone the most on a day-to-day basis, which becomes very easy with a cloud solution. Collaboratively, I am able to collaborate seamlessly because it brings content and processes together.

Additionally, there is document storage with metadata, document versioning, document workflow, check-in, check-out, REST API for integration, easy customization, and vibrant community support.

Alfresco has positively impacted my organization as it is open-source with a vibrant community and is very cost-effective compared to other alternatives. It made my office go paperless, thereby saving the environment, and reduced the stress of making several copies of paper. It also transferred the captured documents to the paper department and reduced the employment rate by forty percent across the organization.

    What needs improvement?

One area where Alfresco can be improved is the ability to scan directly using Alfresco. Additionally, I would appreciate improvements especially when it comes to the ability to integrate with social network platforms such as uploading and sharing to Facebook or Instagram. The user interface should also be more polished to allow easy customization and navigation for new users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for the past six years and one month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Alfresco is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, Alfresco is very scalable and handles my organization's growth efficiently.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Alfresco is very responsive, helpful, and vibrant.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used IBM Business Process Manager  before switching to Alfresco.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment as Alfresco is very easy to use. It made my office go paperless, thereby saving the environment, and offers easy integration with various tools I use in the company.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing is that Alfresco is very cheap and cost-effective.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Alfresco, I evaluated Oracle BPM  Suite among other options.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using Alfresco is that since it is very easy to use, it is well-suited for any organization. It is one of the best content management tools with great document storage with metadata. If a large organization is able to use this tool, it is very scalable. Use cases for content repository and orchestration are well-suited, although for small use cases, it could be supported by SharePoint  or other common content services applications as well. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
