Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance that fits your workload and run it on demand. There is no upfront commitment; charges accrue only for the hours each instance runs.

One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you launch, billed per hour. The rate bundles the operating system license and the software fee. Each instance you start meters separately. Running ten instances of the same type accrues ten times the hourly charge.
The software fee meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly charge for this image. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the attached volume, while the instance sits stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
