Overview
This is a repackaged open-source software product wherein additional charges apply for support and for providing it in a simple consumable AMI. Jenkins is a Continuous Integration(CI) server written in Java for testing and reporting on isolated changes in a larger code base in real time. The software enables the developers to find and solve defects in a code base rapidly and to automate the testing of their builds.

You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. The software cost stays the same across all eight options; the difference is the compute capacity behind each. The t2 instances (t2.micro, t2.small, t2.medium, t2.large) offer scaling burstable capacity. The m3.medium and m4 instances (m4.large, m4.xlarge, m4.2xlarge) offer general-purpose capacity across a range of sizes. You pick the instance that fits your workload and are billed hourly for the time it runs. Larger instances handle heavier build loads. The 24/7 support applies to whichever option you choose.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers a pre-packaged Jenkins image on Windows Server 2019, plus 24/7 support. Each option maps to one EC2 instance size. The software comes ready to run with dependent components installed. You connect via RDP as Administrator and access Jenkins on port 8080.
The software rate meters running time only. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge does not accrue. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume may still apply while the instance is stopped. You are billed again once you start it.
The t2 instances (micro, small, medium, large) provide burstable capacity that scales up as size increases. The m3.medium and m4 instances (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) provide general-purpose capacity. Choose larger sizes for heavier or continuous build workloads. Each is billed per hour of running time.
