Claude is a next-generation AI assistant based on Anthropic's research into training helpful, honest, and harmless AI systems. Claude is capable of a wide variety of conversational and text processing tasks while maintaining a high degree of reliability and predictability. Use cases include summarization, search, creative and collaborative writing, Q&A, coding, and more. Early customers report that Claude is much less likely to produce harmful outputs, easier to converse with, and more steerable - making it more robust against prompt-based attacks. Claude can also take direction on personality, tone, and behavior - in English and many other languages.

Dimensions summary
You pay based on usage, measured in tokens. Tokens are units of text the model reads or generates. On-demand pricing splits into input and response tokens, billed per million. Batch processing offers separate per-million rates for input and output tokens on grouped requests. Provisioned Throughput reserves dedicated capacity, billed hourly, with three options: no commitment, a 1-month commitment, and a 6-month commitment. Longer commitments change the hourly rate. Token dimensions appear across multiple regions, so rates vary by where you run inference. You choose the option that fits your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
A token is a unit of text the model reads or generates. Input tokens cover the text you send, including prompts and context. Response tokens cover the text the model returns. Both meter separately, and you pay per million tokens in each category.
On-demand meters input and response tokens as requests run in real time. Batch processing groups requests and meters them under separate per-million input and output token rates. Batch suits large, non-urgent jobs you can queue; on-demand suits interactive, real-time work.
Provisioned Throughput bills hourly for reserved capacity, so charges accrue for the reserved time regardless of how much you use it. The no-commit, 1-month, and 6-month options change the hourly rate. Idle reserved capacity still accrues the hourly charge.
