You pay by the hour for each running instance of Rocky Linux from CIQ Pro 10. Pricing is usage-based, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, or accelerated GPU families. The hourly software rate scales with the instance size you pick, so larger instances with more vCPUs and memory cost more per hour. You choose the instance type that fits your workload, then pay the matching hourly rate. This charge covers the software; AWS bills separately for the underlying compute.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one billable unit for the hourly software charge?
You pay per running EC2 instance, per hour. Each launched instance of the operating system counts as one billable node. The rate matches the specific instance type you pick. The software rate is separate from AWS compute charges, which appear on the same invoice.
Am I charged for instances that are stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. Stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue the software fee. AWS may still bill separately for storage tied to a stopped instance, but the operating system license meters running hours only.
Does the hourly rate change when I move to a larger instance type?
Yes. Each instance type maps to its own hourly software rate. Larger instances with more vCPUs and memory carry higher rates. Switching to a bigger family or size changes your rate immediately once the new instance runs. You are not locked to one size.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
