You pay by the hour for this hardened CentOS Stream 7 image, billed per running instance. Each pricing line maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the size and family you launch. Smaller general-purpose types like t2 and t3 sit at one end, while compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare-metal families scale up from there. The software rate is charged on top of standard AWS infrastructure fees. You are not locked into a single size — pick the instance that fits each workload, and costs rise with the capacity you choose.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what does the software rate include?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the selected type, billed per hour. The rate covers the hardened CentOS Stream 7 image, updates, firewalls, and the auto-patch agent. You launch it with 1-Click. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for the underlying instance are separate and added by AWS.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the attached volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
How does my bill change if I switch to a larger instance type?
Each instance type is its own pricing line with its own hourly software rate. Larger or more specialized families, such as compute, memory, GPU, or bare-metal, carry higher rates than smaller general-purpose types. Your cost changes to the new type's rate the moment you launch on it.
