You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.8 with support from the vendor. Pricing is usage-based, so you are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, or GPU and accelerator families. The hourly rate scales with the size and capability of the instance you choose. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour. You select the instance type that fits your workload, and the software charge applies on top of standard AWS compute costs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get with each hourly instance-type dimension?
Each dimension pairs Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.8 with vendor support, running on one AWS EC2 instance of the named type. The instance type sets the CPU, memory, and storage profile. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software fee. Note that stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage costs for attached volumes, which are separate from this software charge.
How does my bill change if I move to a larger instance size?
The software charge is set per instance type. Moving to a larger size within a family raises the hourly rate. The change is not automatic; it applies when you launch or switch to the new instance type. Standard AWS compute charges apply on top.
