This image is built from the official Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.8 ISO with only the "Minimal Install" package group, resulting in a 10GB footprint compared to larger default installations. Key differences from standard community images:

The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue this charge. AWS may still bill separately for attached storage on stopped instances, but that is an AWS infrastructure cost, not part of this software rate.

To connect to the VM:
- Use SSH to connect
- Username provisioned inside is: 'ec2-user'
- Use the SSH key provided at the launch of the instance
- Run 'sudo su -' to get a root prompt
