Overview
Mendix and Siemens Mendix is used by 4000+ customers across all industries - from banking, financial services and insurance to public sector and retail - but also has a strong focus on manufacturing since it was acquired by Siemens in 2019. Mendix is the low-code platform of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and comes with pre-built integrations to other Xcelerator products, like Teamcenter PLM, Opcenter MES and Insights Hub IoT (formerly known as MindSphere). Interestingly, after the acquisition, Siemens also started using Mendix internally. Four years later, they now have 580+ apps in production - all running on AWS - with 300+ more on the way. Mendix and AWS Mendix is fully cloud-native, with containerized apps that can be deployed in a public cloud, private cloud, on premise and even on edge devices. The cloud deployment options include a highly automated and fully managed public cloud, called Mendix Cloud, which has run on AWS since 2016. Customers who prefer to deploy apps in their own AWS account can do that with the Mendix on Amazon EKS Reference Deployment . Over 75% of Mendix customers run their apps on Mendix Cloud, their AWS private cloud or a combination of both. As a Siemens business, Mendix is also a key part of the Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) Siemens signed with AWS in 2021. As a result, Mendix now has a dedicated AWS development team, which aims to make Mendix the fastest and easiest way to build apps on AWS. This has resulted in a rich set of Mendix connectors to 20+ AWS services and an AWS Workshop , which teaches AWS builders how to use them and get started with Mendix for free. Mendix for SAP Mendix has been SAP's main partner for low-code development since 2017, and that partnership continues to this day. Many customers use Mendix as an innovation layer on top of multiple SAP instances, as well as non-SAP systems, rather than customizing SAP itself. Some are still on SAP ECC and preparing to migrate to cloud and/or SAP S/4HANA. Others are already on S/4HANA and using Mendix to "keep the core clean". Common use cases for Mendix are things which are typically hard to do in SAP, like native mobile apps with offline capability and apps for external business partners, like customers, suppliers and logistics service providers. Mendix supports the latest SAP Fiori design theme, called SAP Horizon, but for external users, customers often prefer to use their own, company-branded design system. In short, Mendix is often used to make SAP more accessible and user-friendly. Mendix can co-exist with SAP's own development technologies, such as SAP Build, Fiori, CAP and RAP, but it has three important benefits as a separate innovation layer on top of SAP. Firstly, it's an all-in-one platform, covering all use cases and DevOps activities in a single platform instead of a collection of tools with varying levels of integration. Secondly, it's all low-code, rather than a mix of low-code tools with high-code tools, which will still be needed for many use cases. Streamlining the Route From Consignment to Auction

What do you like best about the product?
The main benefit has been having a clearer picture of where work needs to happen before a watch can move to the next stage. With specialist timepieces, authentication and due diligence cannot simply be treated as administrative steps, so understanding how they fit into the wider process has been useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I’ve become more conscious of is how much the auction calendar drives the workflow. A consignment may arrive well before the sale, but the work still has to move through the right stages before catalogue preparation and viewing. That has given us a better basis for thinking about capacity and timing. The project is ongoing, but Tecnomatix has helped us look at the route from consignment to auction as one connected process rather than a collection of separate tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With watch auctions, timing matters because there are several stages between accepting a consignment and having a finished lot ready for bidders. We’ve been using Tecnomatix to examine that process more closely, particularly how the handling, checking and cataloguing stages fit around our auction schedule.

Connecting Sustainability With Production

What do you like best about the product?
What stands out to me is the ability to look at production as part of the sustainability discussion rather than treating it as something separate. That fits the way I approach fashion innovation, where technology and responsible production need to work alongside creative development.
What do you dislike about the product?
One practical benefit has been having a clearer basis for conversations with people involved in different stages of development. A production decision that looks efficient from one perspective can have a different implication when viewed across the whole process, so seeing those relationships more clearly has been useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working around sustainable fashion has made me much more interested in what happens between the design concept and the finished product. We’ve been using Tecnomatix to explore production processes in more detail, particularly how different decisions can affect resources, efficiency and the wider lifecycle of a fashion product.

Keeping Production Close to the Original Design

What do you like best about the product?
For me, the useful part has been looking at the points where quality can be affected by the way a garment is produced rather than by the design itself. With a smaller collection, details around construction, sequencing and consistency can have a noticeable effect, so having those stages mapped out has been helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The process has been fairly hands-on. I’ve had to look at some of the production steps more closely than I initially expected, particularly where a change seemed minor but could affect the finished garment. That has made the validation work more practical rather than something we only review at the end. We’re still developing how we use Tecnomatix, but it has helped us put more attention on the production process before problems reach the finished piece.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One thing that matters a lot when developing a garment is making sure the finished production still reflects what was intended at the design stage. We’ve been using Tecnomatix as part of our production process validation to give us a clearer way of checking the workflow before a piece moves further into production.

What do you like best about the product?
For me, it’s the ability to see the process from a different angle. Instead of treating every production change as something we have to work out as we go, we can explore the scenario first.
What do you dislike about the product?
The level of detail can make the initial setup feel heavier than expected. We’ve had to spend some time making sure the information going into the process is properly defined.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As we look at how products move through production, Tecnomatix gives us a way to examine the manufacturing process in more detail before making decisions. That has been useful for understanding where a change could create extra work or affect the wider production flow.

What do you like best about the product?
The visual side is probably the most useful for us. Being able to look at the movement of materials as a process makes some operational discussions much easier than trying to work everything out from assumptions.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a fair amount of detail involved in setting up the process properly. We’ve had to spend some time making sure the information being represented reflects how our operation actually works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We’re using Tecnomatix to examine material movement and logistics across our operation. It gives us a clearer way to think about how products move through the warehouse and fulfilment process and where the flow could potentially be improved.
