Overview
"Real-time Ubuntu Pro is an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy Jellyfish server AMI that enables the real-time kernel option on boot, running with the 5.15-rt patch set implemented.
By integrating the upstream PREEMPT_RT patches, real-time Ubuntu reduces kernel latencies as required by the most demanding workloads and is more preemptive than mainline Linux. Real-time Ubuntu helps ensure time-predictable task execution by minimizing non-preemptible critical sections in kernel code. As the processing of time-sensitive workloads depends on the system's ability to respond within a bounded time interval, real-time Ubuntu aims to provide a deterministic response to stringent low-latency requirements.
If you are an automotive developer or engineer looking for a reliable OS with deterministic capabilities, Ubuntu Pro with a real-time kernel is the right choice for you. Our real-time Ubuntu has been designed specifically for cutting-edge projects and is already being used in automotive-related developments and prototypes related to autonomous driving, for example.
This product is the exact copy of the Ubuntu operating system you would deploy on real hardware with the same real-time kernel and aims to provide an exact mirror of your complete stack on the cloud.
Canonical's enterprise-grade software support and long-term maintenance for the real-time Ubuntu kernel ensure product longevity. Device manufacturers can focus on their business drivers, shortening time-to-market by relying on an enterprise-grade, real-time Linux kernel supported for 10 years.

Why developers and devops choose real-time Ubuntu:
- Critical and high-security kernel CVE patches are automatically applied at run-time, without the need for an immediate reboot, enabled by default on Ubuntu Pro.
- 10-year security maintenance: real-time Ubuntu 22.04 LTS provides security maintenance until April 2032
- Optimized performance: optimized kernel, with improved boot speed, outstanding runtime performance, and advanced device support
- Production-ready: Ubuntu is the leading Linux in the cloud with over 50% of Linux workloads
- Developer-friendly: Ubuntu is the number one Linux for developers, offering the broadest library and tools to innovate with the latest technologies and security coverage.
- Non-stop security: Canonical publishes updated images daily, ensuring security is built-in from the moment an instance launches
- Consistent experience across platforms: from edge to multi-cloud, Ubuntu provides the same experience regardless of the platform, ensuring consistency of your CI/CD pipelines and management mechanisms.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
For Ubuntu Cloud Guest it is suggested to manually configure your Security Group/Firewall settings. The 1-Click Security Group opens only port 22 so that you can access your instance via ssh using login 'ubuntu'. If you chose the 1-Click Security Group, you may change it later to enable applications using the AWS Console or API.
