Overview
Python3 Dev on Amazon Linux 2023 provides a fully configured, production-ready development environment for building Python applications and web services on AWS.
This AMI is built on a minimal installation of Amazon Linux 2023, updated to the latest security patches, and includes Python 3.9 with a comprehensive set of development tools pre-installed. It is designed for developers and teams who need a complete environment for web development, API services, automation, and containerized workflows without spending time on setup and configuration.
Key components included:
- Python 3.9.25 with pip package manager
- Docker 25.0.14 for containerized development
- Node.js 18 LTS with npm (for frontend tooling and full-stack development)
- nginx 1.28 web server and reverse proxy
- AWS CLI v2 (pre-configured for AWS service integration)
- Git version control
- GCC and GNU Make (for compiling native extensions)
- jq (JSON processing tool)
This environment supports the complete development lifecycle from coding to containerization. Use Python virtual environments for project isolation, Docker for container builds, nginx as a reverse proxy, and AWS CLI for cloud resource management.
The system is security hardened following best practices. SSH access uses key pair authentication only. Unnecessary services and packages have been removed to reduce the attack surface. Automatic security updates are enabled by default.
This AMI is suitable for web application development (Flask, Django, FastAPI), REST API services, scripting and automation, data processing pipelines, CI/CD build environments, and containerized development workflows.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
