This product has charges associated with it for the build, maintenance, and support of the Amazon Machine Image (AMI). Milvus is an open-source vector database designed to handle high-dimensional vector data, enabling efficient similarity search and storage at a massive scale. It's particularly optimized for generative AI (GenAI) applications, powering tasks such as semantic search, recommendation systems, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Built to scale seamlessly from prototypes to production, Milvus supports billions of vectors with minimal performance degradation, making it a go-to tool for AI engineers and data scientists working with unstructured data.
This is a repackaged open-source software product, for which additional charges apply for support and for providing it in a simple, consumable AMI. Milvus is the leading vector database for AI-driven applications, powering scalable similarity search on billions of high-dimensional vectors with unmatched speed and efficiency. It is designed to handle and search massive amounts of vector data, typically generated by machine learning models. It excels in similarity searches, making it perfect for applications like recommendation systems, image and audio similarity searches, and fraud detection. Milvus is renowned for its high performance, scalability, and capacity to manage billions of vectors. At GlobalSolutions, we have packaged the Milvus database so our customers can get started quickly without having to build, package, or deploy it themselves.

Milvus on Ubuntu Powered by Globalsolutions with 24/7 Support
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run. This listing packages the Milvus vector database as a ready-to-use image, so pricing scales with compute capacity rather than software tiers. The ten options fall into three instance families. The t3 sizes (small, medium, large) suit lighter, burstable workloads. The m5 and m6i sizes (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) balance compute and memory for general use. The c6i sizes (large, xlarge) favor compute-heavy tasks. Larger sizes within each family bill at a higher hourly rate. You choose the size that fits your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance size?
You pay for the running EC2 instance plus the pre-packaged Milvus vector database image. The image comes hardened and updated for security. Milvus starts automatically when the instance boots, with connection tools and a Python virtual environment pre-installed. Larger instance sizes give more compute and memory, at a higher hourly rate.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Does moving to a larger instance size need a manual switch?
Yes. Pricing follows the instance size you launch, so scaling is manual. To change capacity, you launch a different size or resize the instance. Your bill then reflects the new hourly rate. There is no automatic tier upgrade based on usage volume.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Milvus is an open-source vector database for similarity search over embeddings, deployed here in its standalone configuration: the Milvus engine plus etcd for metadata and MinIO for object storage on a single instance. This Lynxroute build is hardened and ready out of the box: authentication enabled before the database first starts with a unique password generated at first boot, the management console published only over TLS behind its own credentials, the metrics port and object store bound to loopback only, UFW firewall pre-configured, and a CIS Level 1 hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base.
